St Edward's House is strategically located in the centre of Stow-on-the-Wold and takes its name from the adjacent medieval church of St Edwards, a fine Grade I Listed building. The large stained glass windows, buttresses and neatly kept churchyard are among the reasons for St Edward's Church being listed in the highest architectural category. Following the defeat of Charles I at nearby Donnington in 1646, 1,000 Royalist prisoners were imprisoned in the church. The fifteenth-century four-stage tower can be seen for miles around and is illuminated at night.

St Edward's House forms part of an eclectic street scene of historic buildings and is listed as Grade II as being of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. The Listing Note dated 1960 states:

Circa 1730. Ashlar with much enrichment. Roof not visible. Elaborate Baroque treatment. Three storeys, 2 windows, C19 sashes in flush panes and keyed heads. Central arched doorway with keystone; niche over. This is flanked by fluted pilasters with Corinthian caps which support giant strip pilasters enriched with carving throughout their length. The whole front is paned by full height fluted pilasters with Composite caps supporting an enriched cornice which is also the parapet. Said to have been built and carved by a pargetter named Shepherd.

St Edward's House occupies a prominent position on the west side of the Market Square backing onto Church Alley, which links Church Street with the Market Square, and directly overlooking the church yard.

The property is entered via stone steps which lead up into the main reception room with natural stone bolection fireplace and exposed ceiling timbers. Adjoining this is a smaller reception room with fine flagstone floor. Both reception rooms have deep window sills and aspects over the Market Square. A lobby to the rear gives access to a kitchen, cellars and rear yard.

A turned staircase leads to the first floor landing which provides access to two interconnecting rooms and three cloakrooms.

On the second floor is a large open plan room with a fine mullioned transomed window. Part of the room is vaulted with exposed timbers. A door reached via a ladder provides access to a flat roof.

From the ground floor lobby stone steps lead down to three barrel vaulted cellars with good head heights, two with natural light, and terracotta tiled flooring throughout. Formerly used as a commercial kitchen.

Outside there is a small yard with a former privy and store and access to Church Alley. An external staircase leads to the first floor.

The internal arrangement of rooms offers enormous scope for refurbishment and an exciting opportunity for development, possible change of use and remodelling. The property operated for a period of 52 years as a successful tea room and closed recently. It is probable that the house was a residential dwelling in the past. There is the potential to create a substantial flat over the first and second floors accessed via steps off Church Alley with the remainder of the building forming a commercial lock up shop with extensive cellars reached via the front door off the Market Square and with access to an enclosed rear yard.
