Full description

Fineshade Abbey was built on the site of Castle Hymel after it was destroyed during the reign of King John. The Abbey became "Mr. Kirkham's House" in approximately 1721 and survived until 1749 when it became submerged in a Georgian Mansion.

This in turn became submerged in a palatial house in 1856 with The Wash House being the only surviving part. The stables to the Georgian Mansion remain and were modernised in the 1980's, The Wash House now has planning consent for the same.

The Wash House is constructed of local limestone under a hipped slate roof.

Planning permission exists, (14/00516/FUL) for the conversion and extension of The Wash House to form a four bedroom stone country house, utilising the existing stone building and presently allowing for a glazed link to a stone extension to the east of the building.

A condition of the existing planning consent is that the portal frame barn is removed as part of the development. The completed house will extend to approximately 3,100 sq ft, principally over two floors and the whole site area is a approximately 1.93 Acres.

The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and English Heritage or their agents manage the site. Their conditions relating to the development are required to be met in addition to those of the local planning authority. Further details are available from the agents.

A right of way at all times for all purposes to this single residential dwelling will be granted over the driveway to the highway.

There will be an obligation upon the neighbouring owner of the yew hedge to maintain this at it's existing height, some 20 feet.

The hatched area on the plan will be available to the purchaser of The Wash House for access and egress during the course of the development subject to them making good the area as a result of any
traffic damage etc, up to July 2017.
