A six bedroom detached period family home. The property benefits from a large kitchen dining room. When the present owners were relocated to Cambridgeshire, they had the task of finding a new home. They were pleased to discover Sunnyside in Fenstanton village, which was in the perfect location for work, schools and leisure opportunities.
Fenstanton is well provided for everyday needs, with a good primary school, a general store, bakers, a butcher and two pubs. It is a friendly village with a number of societies, an annual village sports day, and activities centred round the two churches.
The village has an excellent choice of nearby towns. It is only a few miles from the historic market town of St Ives, where you can take the Busway into vibrant Cambridge, with its shopping centre, theatres and riverside walk to the pretty village of Granchester. The commuter has the choice of Cambridge and Huntingdon for a good train service into London. The A14 connects with the M11 and M25: and Stansted is an easy drive away.
Thirteen years ago when the owners moved in, Sunnyside was in need of much care and attention. A general and thorough renovation including roof repairs, kitchen, bathrooms and windows, transformed it into a charming and comfortable family home. The house was configured to cater for elderly parents, and there are two separate living spaces in the house. The design ensured that the house could easily revert to a very spacious family home.
Sunnyside dates from eighteen forty nine, and as you enter the hallway, you are in the original section of the house. The wooden floors and charming Victorian staircase make a delightful introduction to the home, which then blends naturally into the modern extension.
The owners love the kitchen diner, where they can seat up to twelve for relaxed entertaining. With people gathered round the table chatting, or taking it easy in a comfy chair, the kitchen is an extremely sociable area. Warmed by the wood burner in winter, it is a summer pleasure to open the doors to the garden. It is perfect to sit on the patio, with a glass of wine, catching the last rays of the sun.
Sunnyside is a very hospitable home, and happily accommodates larger numbers of people. For a Golden Wedding anniversary, over one hundred family and friends were able to circulate between the house and garden.
The garden is mainly laid to lawn, softened by mature trees. It has been the setting for many barbecues. The small decking area is perfect for al fresco dining, and is a private and tranquil space.
The owners will miss the Victorian character of the house, and the warmth and space of the kitchen which has been the happy daily centre of family life. It has been a good village to live in, and they regret that they will no longer be able to just pop across the road for freshly baked bread. However they take away happy memories.
