Full description

This beautifully presented period home offers spacious accommodation with excellent ceiling height throughout. Outside there is ample parking, large garden, barn and equestrian pony paddock. The accommodation includes two reception rooms with beautiful fireplaces, a study, a well fitted kitchen breakfast room and five bedrooms, one with en suite. Located in the centre of this charming and sought after village.

Westward Farm is a delightful period cottage in Winwick village. Nine years ago David and Helen, the present owners were relocating to the area, and were searching for a character property that would also function as a sizeable and comfortable family home. They were thrilled to find Westward Farm, which sat next to the church in the pretty village.

Winwick is a sociable village with a variety of clubs and societies based in the village hall, and house parties can be impromptu events. Kimbolton and Oundle are under ten miles away, both with excellent independent schools, and the larger centres of Cambridge, St Neots and Peterborough are easily accessed. Winwick is four miles from the A14, which connects with major road networks, and there is a fast and frequent train service into London, Kings Cross. The village offers a calm country village life style as a gentle counterbalance with the rush of a busy lifestyle.

Although a cottage, and full of character, Westward Farm is a spacious and light house, with high ceilings. The sitting room has the warm and welcoming atmosphere that epitomises the entire cottage. The beams and exposed stone of the large inglenook are pleasing period features that blend seamlessly with the comforts of modern living. David explains that before they installed the wood burner, he could stand in the inglenook and look up the chimney to the sky.

The dining room enjoys the same features and with candles burning during an evening meal, you could imagine yourself in another age. The rooms combine this sense of history with a contemporary elegance, and friends always express the pleasure they find in the surroundings.

The well-equipped kitchen is perfect for the keen cook, and the gregarious centre of the household. Aga warm in winter but in summer with the patio doors open you create a charming al fresco dining room on the patio. The old kitchen is now a study and the original bake house, is where you can settle with a book and have some quiet time

Helen describes how the garden has been a joy to create. It opens out into the paddock area and creates a fantastic open feeling. Full of shrubs and colour, and their favourite roses, it is full of interest throughout the year. They have recently built raised vegetable beds for easier working. It is a garden that has given much pleasure.

David and Helen will miss both the cottage and the village. They have enjoyed hosting the book club and parties, when the cottage has been full of friends. They will also miss driving into the village after a hectic day, and feeling the stress drain away as soon as they see their pretty and welcoming cottage. They take away very many happy memories.
