The Story

The couple, who moved into their five-bedroom home approximately 13 years ago were in part enticed by the incredible history of the building and its location. “The part of Woking Heath on which this place was built is said to have once been a rendezvous for highwaymen between London and Guildford!” he says. “The foundation stone for the building and church, was laid in 1883. It was originally built as a convalescent home, with the house and beautiful chapel designed by JL Pearson RA, a well-known ecclesiastical architect who also designed Truro cathedral.

Setting The Scene

The communal grounds, which include a tennis court and lake, are enjoyed by all at Oldfield Wood: residents occasionally request permission to erect a marquee for a special occasion and the children
enjoy making dens in the woods. “Oldfield Wood is a little oasis,” he continues. “It is hard to believe you are in the centre of Woking and can be in central London within half an hour. We are also well placed for Guildford and for Heathrow and Gatwick and yet we are surrounded by pretty villages, farm shops and nice places to eat – and we are just three miles from the Surrey Hills.” And the other owner adds: “We will miss the convenience of being here, as well as the character, grandeur and seclusion of this house – it offers a unique lifestyle and really is a hidden gem.”

Woking town is less than a mile from the property and its superb mainline station offers exceptional service to Waterloo with fast trains taking about 23 minutes.
