“My favourite room is the cellar,” says Ken, “which stretches across underneath the whole house. I have a workshop down there alongside a utility room, plentiful storage and a playroom for the boys. The original iron bars on the windows are suggestive of historic use as a cider store long ago when the property was still a farmhouse.”

The boys appreciated the proximity of the property to their school and local amenities, as well as having their own space in the house. “We enjoyed playing in the cellar when we were younger,” they say “and having space for our music in the dining room.”

“One corner of the house features the original Ordnance Survey benchmark, stating that the property lies 616 ft above sea level, or at least it did when the stone was laid in the 1700s!” notes Ken. He adds, “We will miss the house, with its sense of character and unusual layout.”
