The Property - This Grade II listed town cottage was built 1906 by B Parker and R Unwin to a design of 1898/9 published in 1901 by Parker and Unwin in "The Art of Building a House". Westholm, with the Birds Hill development, is the earliest known scheme based on the traditional village green layout, and the prototype of all later development of this type throughout the country. The cottages are grouped around a central green in 7 one and a half storey blocks of 2, 4 and 5 houses, varying in design and are a seminal development concept.

This mid terrace home standing at the head of the close, retains much of its original character.

The Outside - The cottage stands in a plot measuring about 190' by 25' (57.9m x 7.6m) overall and is set about 48' (14.6m) back from the close overlooking the central green. The front garden is laid to lawn with hedges to either side.

The rear garden is about 119' (36.4m) in length and laid to lawn with herbaceous beds and borders, roses, ornamental conifers and shrubs and sycamore tree. Shed.

The Location - Westholm is to be found towards the eastern end of Wilbury Road opposite Norton Common, a beautiful Common and park extending over 63 acres of unspoilt grass and woodland, perfect for walks and picnics and with tennis courts, bowling green and outdoor pool.

It is three-quarters of a mile and a 17 minute walk (according to Google) from the town's mainline railway station. The fastest service to London Kings Cross takes just 27 minutes and Cambridge is 28 minutes away in the other direction. Junction 9 on the A1(M) is 2.4 miles away by car.

Designed in the early 20th Century to combine the benefits of town and country, Letchworth Garden city was the worlds first example of this concept and succeeds to this day in achieving its aim. It provides excellent schools, shops and leisure facilities.
