They were built in 1824 by architect Charles Busby as Brighton had become very fashionable for the top tiers of society, and they were suitably impressed by the curved ‘Brunswick Cream’ facades with their Ionic and Corinthian columns. Although many of the houses have now been converted into apartments, they still retain an air of grandeur, and Brunswick is still one of the most prestigious addresses in the city.

You approach the house up some stone steps, where the glossy black front door opens up to a neat communal hallway where your door is on the right. This in turn opens to the flat where you are immediately aware of the gracious living room of regal proportions, and filled with light from the south. The floors are not original, but they are solid oak in a chevron design and these complement the fresh white walls and the ornate cornicing on the ceiling. The windows are tall and dressed with their original shutters, and the glass is soundproof so you cannot hear the passing cars at all when shut. They frame the ever changing sea views and skyscapes, which never tire no matter what time of year. There is a handsome fireplace in black with a gas stove insert to warm you in the cooler months, but this is rarely necessary as it is a naturally warm flat with very efficient gas central heating system too.

 Many flats of this size have been partitioned to create a greater number of rooms, but the fact this has not makes it feel rather special - there is still scope to modernise should you choose, but to add a mezzanine floor or kitchen to this space would detract from the character of the room.

Double doors link the living room with bedroom two, which would have been a dining space, and is currently set up as a tranquil home office. There are two double wardrobes on the southerly wall with a central door that opens to a secret and very spacious en suite bathroom, tiled in mosaic and with a shower over the bath which is wider at one end for extra elbow room.
