Philleigh 
Philleigh is renowned for its historic church and 16th century Roseland Inn. History: Philleigh and The Smithy 
Philleigh is a parish and village, being one of four in the Roseland Peninsula. It lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The road through Philleigh was the old coach road from Penzance to London and can be seen on maps dating back to as early as 1685. Philleigh's old name was Eglos Ros, meaning 'heath church', where archives date back to the 7th century. The parish church is dedicated to Saint Fili or Filius hence Philleigh. The church's font dates from the 13th century. The Roseland Inn, opposite The Smithy, dates back to the 16th century and had the reputation, as it does today, for the weary traveller for good food and ales, as well as a place to stay and tend to the horses where The Smithy with its neighbouring forge would have evolved. In later years, with the introduction of the motor vehicle, The Smithy became the local village Post Office, which one can still imagine today within the property's kitchen.

The Smithy : A Brief Tour

One can see some of the old hooks in the walls of the cottage where farmers use to rein the horses to. A step leads to a slightly higher level where a useful timber shed is housed. A path leads through an opening to the large rear paddock which has outstanding and far reaching views over the neighbouring countryside.
