Having lived at Allanby Cottage for three years, I have loved every single minute. The property was once a 17th century carpenters workshop and is a quaint little cottage with a unique feel. It is situated on a lovely street, with spectacular views of Houghton. There is also a lovely walk along the river Great Ouse, called The Thicket, part of the Ouse Valley Way, which takes you into St.Ives. Huntingdon train station is only a 10-minute drive away and has great links to major cities across the UK, says Amanda.
I have made a number of improvements to the property during my time here, which include installing a Morso multifuel wood burning stove and new insulation throughout the loft. The bedrooms and hallway have all been freshly decorated as well. It really is in a great location with a local shop that is within a five-minute walk and the impressive Houghton Primary School close by, Amanda continues.
There really is a sense of community in Houghton and the neighbours are very friendly and welcoming. It would be the perfect house for a couple who enjoy a bit of history and want to keep the value of the property intact, concludes Amanda.
The smaller bedroom is my favourite room as it has a beautiful view of Houghton without any obstructions. The upstairs is also light and airy which makes for comfortable living.
I adore the cottage garden which is at the rear of the property. I have recently added a new patio and vines to the pagoda. This is the area where we most enjoy sitting as we can enjoy a nice cosy view of the garden and the house. It really is a pocket full of sunshine and great in the summer months too!
I have many memories that I will cherish forever during the three years at the property which include moving in with my partner and into the property. It really has made a large impact in my life and has been a magical time.
I will miss many things about the property, such as the village and how tranquil the surrounding area is. I love the size of the property; it may look small but it really is like a Tardis once you get inside. It is an affordable home for those who want the quiet life, but to be close enough to many cities.
