Swafield Mews, part of the Swafield Hall estate is steeped in history with direct connections back to King Henry V, it even appears in the Doomsday Book. The estate was gifted to William Burgeys in the 1400’s by the Duke of Suffolk, only for William’s executors to sell it upon his death some twenty or thirty years later in return for a priest to sing for his soul in the church of St Nicholas, Swafield.  The poor also benefited with every pauper being left a penny, with the poor men attending the funeral to be given gowns, food and drink.  Twenty marks were spent on new tabernacles for the images of the Blessed Virgin and of St Nicholas in Swafield church and a hundred masses were conducted for him by the four orders of the friars at Norwich.
