"We are right on the corner of the woodland here," explained Raymond. "We can sit outside if it is warm or inside on a colder day - and almost watch the seasons as they change.
"Because of our position here, we do enjoy a real tranquillity. We also have good accessibility to countryside if we want to go a little bit further afield and we are lucky enough to be close to Fairlop Waters, which was an airfield in the second world war but is now used for sailing."
He added: "At the same time, we are not far from all the amenities we need - transport links and local shops - and there are also some good state and private schools nearby."

BRIGHT AND MODERN

The house on Sylvan Way has five bedrooms and four reception rooms but also features a separate annexe or apartment, with its own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living area.
"This is a great addition to the house, which can be used for guests, family members or can be let out," he said.

"We had a double extension carried out to the front of the house. This gave us a large dining area downstairs and an additional bedroom upstairs."

The fresh interior has enhanced the comfort of the house, said Raymond.
"We use the kitchen all the time - there is space for a table and four chairs in here if someone wants to have another dining area."
The new interior has been perfect for family living and for entertaining.
"There is plenty of room and so it is fantastic when volumes of people are here for special occasions.
"We have had some great Christmas parties and have even had a 100th birthday party here."

PRETTY GARDEN

The immaculate garden was partly landscaped when the couple arrived. They have enjoyed finishing it off and spending time out there in the summer, relaxing quietly on their own or socialising with friends.
On sunny afternoons they might also decide to take a stroll through ancient Hainault Forest, which is one of the last existing sections of the former Forest of Essex in England. Epping Forest and Hatfield Forest are other remaining examples.
"We will miss the position of this house greatly, and the wonderful views when we leave," he said. "We love looking at the trees and watching the birds.
"We are only moving because we are downsizing - we have loved living here."
