Ynysybwl is a village in Cwm Clydach located in the centre of the Llanwynno parish, at the point where the stream known as Y Ffrwd flows into the Nant Clydach. To the north of Ynysybwl is Llanwynno forestry.

There are local facilities in the village which include a supermarket. The market town of Pontypridd provides a comprehensive range of facilities with multiple retailers, banks and restaurants.

The A470 provides easy access from Cardiff northbound and Merthyr Tydfil southbound to Pontypridd and onto the village of Ynysybwl. There are regular bus services to Pontypridd and onwards to Cardiff by train or bus.
