Vendor Interview - We had moved to Bonsall some time before purchasing this property say the current owners of Loneacre, as we liked the area for its village location close to all amenities which offered the best of both worlds. Youre just a spit away from civilisation but in the heart of beautiful countryside. I used to walk the dogs past Loneacre, and would say to my wife One day we will own that house! We had fallen in love with it, so when it came onto the market we bought it the very next day!
Loneacre is the quintessential chocolate box cottage the current owners continue, with its stone front elevation and exposed interior beams and window seats. Set on one of the highest points on the outskirts of Bonsall village, the cottage looks out over hills and trees.
The period cottage offers plenty of space for a family with its three bedrooms. On the ground floor, the cottage comprises two lounges of which one has a wood burner, a dining room, a large kitchen, conservatory and newly refitted bathrooms. Since moving in, the owners have made various improvements to the property, including a brand new gas central heating boiler and double glazed windows, ensuring warmth and quietness all year round. We knocked a wall through and extended the kitchen, also installing new units, and added a conservatory to the back of the house they say.
The office facility of the property was a real attraction too, as it was important that I was able to work from home says the owner. The first floor of the barn conversion has its own phone line so is the ideal space from which to run a business, while the detached barn would be perfectly suited for conversion into ancillary accommodation for a granny flat, office or holiday cottage.
The garden to the front and side of the property is large and neatly landscaped, while to the rear are fields and farmland. The garden at Loneacre is truly dog proof, so our cocker spaniel cant escape! say the owners, However, the area is perfect for dog-walking - we just go out the front gate and were in open countryside so we can walk for miles!
Bonsall is a busy village, with a lot going on and a rich history say the owners. You still see the horse and carts going through the village alongside the cyclists who come for the scenic trails round about. Tourists come here and stay in the B&Bs so that they can take advantage of the countryside footpaths along the nearby Limestone Way. At weekends you see the hikers sitting on the Bonsall Cross eating their sandwiches! The village boasts two pubs, a delicatessen, and a school with brilliant Ofsted reports for which families from other villages commute to Bonsall. A train station is just 10 minutes away, offering access to Derbys mainline station and esteemed Grammar and High schools. A bus route serves the village for convenient travel to larger towns, with Bakewell, Ashbourne and Nottingham not too far away. Less than an hour away is East Midlands airport for easy travel.
We love to sit in the large L-shaped conservatory, which with its underfloor heating allows us to enjoy the garden in comfort even in the winter months.
Memorable event or favourite feature
Perfect for entertaining, the garden is ideal for summer barbecues and is very private. We often have family to stay, so the off road parking for up to three cars is a real advantage too, and unusual for the area.
Best thing about the grounds or local area
Loneacre has the perfect chocolate box garden, private and pretty. It is landscaped by pathways and rockeries into different rooms or areas to sit, and we spend a lot of time there. It is a beautiful garden, with its rockery water feature, and has been acclaimed for 5 years in Bonsalls annual Open Gardens event. With perennial flowers and evergreen trees, it looks nice all year round. Garden maintenance services in the area are cheap too, so you can enjoy a lovely garden even if youre away a lot or dont have green fingers!
