General Remarks 
Grasmere is probably Cumbria’s most popular village, with William Wordsworth moving to Dove Cottage in 1770-1850. Today Grasmere has plenty of gift shops, along with a variety of places to eat and stay. Most of the buildings in Grasmere date from the 19th or early 20th Century, though the farms around Grasmere are much older. Wonderful walks can be enjoyed to Silver Howe, Stone Arthur and Helm Crag and there is some spectacular scenery to be viewed whilst walking around Grasmere Lake itself whilst perhaps enjoying a taste of the famous Grasmere Gingerbread.
