Tower House is the major portion of the country house formerly known as The Ryalls and was built circa 1834 by Commander William Henry Baptist Proby, a Plantagenet descendant and well respected naval commander during the early part of the 19th century. It was built in the Gothic style and has elegant rendered elevations with classic arch top windows, drip mouldings, quoin detailing and castellated roof that is in the main slated. The tower to the front façade is of particular merit with its beautiful oriel window and statue of St John the Baptist.

The original house has had an interesting and intriguing history related to Church of England clergy residents and was used as a military hospital after the First World War, before becoming a girls' private boarding school and subsequently a National Children's Home facility for 50 years, ending in 1990. The building was restored to an exceptionally high standard and divided into two residences in 1998 by Prowting Homes, with completion in 2000.

This Grade II Listed house retains a wealth of character features, all of which aid in creating a wonderful period ambience and the many of the rooms are elegantly proportioned with high ceilings and ornate cornicing. Directions.
Travelling east on the A3052 coastal road between Sidmouth and Lyme Regis, turn right at Tower Cross (signposted Seaton) onto Seaton Down Road. Proceed down the hill for a mile, taking the fifth right hand turning into Ryalls Court. Follow this road around to the left where Tower House will be found on your left hand side.
