Why you’ll like it:
This magnificent, Grade II listed crescent was built and completed between 1842-47 by the renowned architect Amon Henry Wilds, and they are considered to be some of the most impressive in the city. They were constructed at a time when Brighton was becoming the most fashionable place to live outside of the capital, and they still command the same air of superiority today. This flat is on the first floor of a striking mansion house; central in the crescent so it is set well back from the road, and overlooking the blanket of lawn and the majestic trees within it. The cream facade is impressive with ammonite pilasters, and you approach up a wide path, through the grand front door, and climb one flight of stairs to the apartment.
Once inside, it is immediately apparent that this apartment has been beautifully maintained to ensure the original character of the building has been retained. A contemporary palette blends beautifully with the original features which have been picked out in white, and the finish is immaculate. Your door opens to a long hallway from which all the rooms reside, so first, at the front of the building is the elegant living and dining room. This is of gracious proportions with two generous west facing windows, adorned with plantation shutters which look out over the green, and fill the room with a wonderful warm light. An open fireplace takes centre stage with a grand cast iron surround and floral tiles flanking the insert in a Deco style. There is ample space in here for two large sofas, as well as a formal dining table and chairs, and the quality cream carpets flow from here throughout the rest of the flat for continuity.
The kitchen is next on the right with mineralised slate tiles on the floor, and solid walnut surfaces atop the buttermilk, shaker style units. These are at both base and wall level, and they include an integrated fridge and freezer, and a Smeg oven and gas hob. The splashback is on trend in brushed stainless steel, and there is space and plumbing for a washing machine. The sage walls pick up the earthy tones of the floor, and another tall sash window makes this a lovely, light room.
The master bedroom is to the left with soothing lavender grey walls, and delightful garden views. There is a triple wardrobe already built into the alcove, and this allows for a generous amount of floorspace around the kingsize bed making this room feel sumptuous, and being at the rear of the building makes it even more tranquil. Bedroom two is only a touch smaller, and this also has wardrobes built in and peaceful views. The bathroom is conveniently located between the two, and this has been well designed being the smallest room, but it still allows for a modern bath suite with a shower above, with the walls and floor tiled in sandy stone ceramic.
This flat has an abundance of charm and character, and being so well presented and in a favourable location, it is bound to be snapped up.
Bear in mind:
Unfortunately there is a waiting list for this parking zone, but there are many busses which stop at Seven Dials, and an excellent cycle path system should you chose to be car free.
