Property Description

Full description

Milton Lodge is an historic and substantial family home which, it’s believed, dates back to 1780 and is where Frances Milton, mother of the great English novelist Anthony Trollope, was born. This generous detached property is situated in an elevated spot set behind a period stone wall and by the nature of its size and secluded position is a wonderful house for entertaining both inside and out.
The property is approached through detailed cast iron double opening gates which lead to a gravel driveway that curves up and around to reveal this beautiful stone built Lodge providing ample parking to the front. The former detached coach house now lends itself to accommodate at least three cars with workshop/storage area to the rear.
An original stone portico welcomes you into the main entrance hall which gives an instant feel of the overall ambiance of the house’s charm and character. The two main Southerly facing reception rooms benefit from most of the day’s sunshine through the bay window and French doors. A substantial study room is situated off the main entrance hall and the kitchen/breakfast room offers a spectacular space complete with a bespoke solid wood kitchen, gas fired AGA, Belfast sink and vaulted ceiling.
The former cellar with its original flagstone floor is currently used as a games room with access through to a wine cellar.
The Georgian central staircase leads to the first floor landing with access to four substantial bedrooms, two with en suite facilities and a family bathroom. The top floor accommodation is rather versatile and is currently offered with a bedroom and sitting room.
The extensive gardens offer a rich variety of shrubs, plants and trees to include fruit trees, Magnolia and conifers. The large patio area is ideal for alfresco dining with well stocked flower borders complete with a wild flower garden. There is a heated swimming pool to the rear of the house surrounded by a patio area and two garden rooms. The garden continues around to the vegetable area with more fruit trees and a green house. There are open views across to the playing fields of nearby Colston School to the front and there is parkland adjoining to the rear of the house.
Local Area:
Stapleton Village benefits from the juxtaposition of being close enough to feel the buzz of the city at the same time as allowing you to pull on your boots and step out for some glorious hill top or river walks within 5 minutes from leaving your front door. In terms of amenities it provides a local shop, garage, coffee shop, beauty salon and has a beautiful Victorian Gothic church as well.
To compliment this it also provides easy access to the M32 with links to the M4 & M5 and with Bristol Parkway Station only a short distance away providing regular services to London Paddington Station.

Vendors Comments:
When you come to visit my home the house and gardens will not, I hope, need my help to sell their virtues. What you may need is to be coerced away from some of the traditional places to live within Bristol within this price range. I first moved here because I fell in love with the house but I discovered it was the village community which made this place feel like home, as well as the wonderful walks by the river, and the local pub with what is recognised as one of the best beer gardens in Bristol. Furthermore, the location is ideal in terms of its easy access to motorways, and to the City Centre - so much so that my intention is to stay in Stapleton rather than move away as I genuinely don't believe there is anywhere like it in Bristol.
