The Story

ORIGINAL CHARACTER
The spacious, three-bedroom house is believed to have been built
for a local school master and still boasts some attractive period
features, including fireplaces and sash windows.
“It took us about two to three months to carry out initial work on
the house, and then we were able to move in,” he recalls. “We
worked to the same original footprint of the property and tried to
ensure everything we did was in keeping with its original character,
and that we gave it a clean, bright atmosphere throughout.”
A LIGHT HOUSE
The ground floor of The Homestead follows a traditional layout,
with an airy entrance hall, featuring a herringbone wooden floor,
leading to a large drawing room at the front of the house. This has a
bay window and fireplace.
Beyond it is the light dining room, which also features a bay window.
The kitchen is at the back of the house, together with a utility room,
cloakroom and storage room.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, two of which are particularly
generous. The double aspect master bedroom encompasses an
upper bay window and is especially light.
“This whole house does feel very light throughout,” he says.
ALL SEASONS
The Homestead has been a magnificent family home and a
wonderful place to welcome friends and relatives, he says.
“With its large sash windows, the drawing room is always light and
airy in the summer,” he says. “In the autumn or winter, however, we
can light the wood-burner and it becomes lovely and cosy.”
He continues: “The master bedroom has beautiful views out over
the garden, which is nice at any time of year.”
Parties and gatherings are often held outside during the warmer
weather. The generous garden offers ample space.
“We often have barbecues out on the terrace at the back in the
summer – over the years have celebrated everything from 18th
and 21st birthdays to 40ths here.”
FRIENDLY VILLAGE
Wreningham is a desirable village to live in for various reasons. In
addition to being just a short distance from Wymondham, which
has a station with trains into Cambridge, it is close to Mulbarton,
with its wide range of amenities, and is about 20 minutes’ drive
from the city of Norwich, with its major shopping and leisure
facilities, as well as transport connections.
“It is about the same distance from the railway station at Diss,
which has mainline trains into London,” he says.
He adds: “Wreningham is also known for its local pub, The Bird in
Hand. It has an outstanding primary school, which both our children
attended, and we are well-positioned for reaching the major A11
road, offering good access to Cambridge and London.”
BEAUTIFUL NORFOLK
Many of Norfolk’s beauty spots are within easy driving distance of
Wreningham. It is easy to head off to the Norfolk Broads or
Thetford Forest for an afternoon or day out. Opportunities for
walking, cycling, horse-riding and boating are extensive, and the
beautiful beaches of Norfolk and Suffolk are easily accessible.
“We are looking to stay in the area because we have enjoyed being
here so much,” he adds. “This has been a fantastic family home –
our youngest daughter was born just two months after we arrived
so it is the only home she has known. It is a house with a very warm,
friendly atmosphere and we will take only happy memories with us when we leave.

Setting The Scene

A sweeping gravel driveway leads up to the house and gardens.
There is plenty of of-road parking, together with a detached double
garage. A sun terrace adjoins the property, there are sweeping lawns
to the side and front of the house. The garden is screened by
mature borders and trees.
“We have put a new drive in and enjoyed planting out some more
shrubs and trees,” says the owner. “It has been a labour of love – we
have really enjoyed the garden
