Situation - The woodland lies in a tranquil location within the Torridge Valley, approximately one mile west of the village of Dolton, and immediately south of Halsdon Nature Reserve, a Devon Wildlife Trust owned site.
 
The larger village of Winkleigh is about 6.5 miles south-east of the woodland whilst Great Torrington is about 8 miles to the north-west.

Description - This pretty area of land and woodland totals about 3.19 acres (1.29 hectares) and comprises a level plot of mostly deciduous trees and former meadows with a stream flowing along the southern boundary which eventually flows into the River Torridge a short distance to the west.
 
Part of the land was formerly a grass meadow which would require some improvement to restore the land to grazing use. Throughout the land there are open areas and historic tree lined earth bank boundaries.

Access - There is direct access to the wood from a council maintained road, with a gateway on the eastern boundary. In addition, it is possible to access the wood over the pedestrian path to the north, which forms part of the Nature Reserve.
