Hensingham is a suburb located to the south east of Whitehaven, a small Georgian town and port on the Cumbria coast. Whitehaven grew as a result of shipping and mining but these industries declined when ports with larger shipping capacity took over. The harbour has been rejuvenated in recent years as a result of millennium funding with the development of a 40m high crows nest and a wave light feature that changes colour with the tide, together with the Rum Story on Lowther Street and The Beacon, a refurbished museum set on the harbour. Whitehaven now hosts many visits by Tall Ships and is the starting point of the popular 140 mile C2C Cycle Route. The property is located close to Sellafield, a major employer in the area, and is also within commuting distance of many other busy centres.

Hensingham offers good local amenities with a convenience store and several pubs while Whitehaven provides a wider range of shops, supermarkets, sports centre and restaurants and pubs. Nearby Workington and Cockermouth provide further amenities and Carlisle provides comprehensive cultural, recreational and shopping facilities. For schooling there is a wide choice of primary, secondary and sixth form schools on offer in Hensingham and Whitehaven.
For the commuter the A595 provides easy access to Carlisle and onwards to M6 for links to the north and south. The rail station at Carlisle provides regular services to major UK cities north and south and also services east to Newcastle.
