The Story

The beautiful period property, tucked away in an exclusive setting, has been extended to offer flexible accommodation and has been given an elegant finish throughout

Carefully created within buildings that in part date back some 200 years, The Coach House is a beautiful example of the art of conversion.
Once part of The Old Rectory at Wollaton, the historic buildings were first converted approximately 45 years ago but have been extensively enhanced by the current owner.
"This is a conservation area and all the work has been carried out very sympathetically and tastefully," he explained.
"We are in a very secluded area here, where there are just three properties in total and each has its own privacy."

SEPARATE LIVING

Since buying the property 25 years ago the current owner has reconfigured the main house to create three bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom and two with a dressing room.
A former brick car port was also converted into a cottage, with its own living area, bedroom and bathroom, and a studio apartment was created above the garage.
"The result is that we now have five bedrooms here in total and lots of very flexible accommodation.
"It could be ideal for someone who has regular guests, extended family or staff they wish to accommodate."

BEAUTIFUL RETREAT

Wollaton was well-known to the owner before he moved to The Coach House.
He and his wife were familiar with its quiet beauty and its convenience.
"At the time, my wife was keen to downsize," he recalled. "She wanted a house that was older and I wanted something that was within just two or three miles of the centre of Nottingham, about the same distance from a motorway and was a lovely property.
"It took her just 24 hours to find this place. She called it a 'hideaway' and when I saw it I agreed that it was in a delightful position.
"It also had everything we were looking for - it had all the principal features. Although we knew we wanted to make dramatic changes, it met all our requirements."

TRANQUIL OASIS

Set back, down a long drive, in a leafy area he describes as a "tranquil oasis," the elegant house nestles in glorious gardens.
"The grounds are an absolute picture in summer and have given us a lot of pleasure," he said. "We have a yew tree that is thought to be about 1,000 years old and there are lots of birds here."
In the warmer months, as much time as possible is spent enjoying the magnificent surroundings. All year round, the bright, interior living space has been perfect for rest and relaxation.
"It has also been a good place to work. I have a nice study here and my wife had one too," he said. "At other times, the drawing room is a lovely place to spend time.
"It is a beautiful room, which is really quite special."

BEAUTY SPOTS

While the house has been everything he hoped it would be in terms of its convenience and access to the city, it is also well-positioned for reaching beautiful places to visit at weekends and on sunny days.
"Wollaton itself is a lovely village and this house has been a comfortable and enjoyable place to live for all this time," he added.

OUT IN THE PARK

Beautiful Wollaton Park features five hundred acres of spectacular grounds.
Featuring parkland and gardens, it is the scenic setting of a house designed by Robert Smythson and built by Sir Francis Willoughby between 1580 and 1588 for his family.
Today the house is a prominent Grade I listed building that encompasses Nottingham's Natural History Museum.
Herds of red and fallow deer still roam freely throughout the grounds.
The formal gardens feature The Camellia House, the oldest cast iron glasshouse in Europe.
