The Story

Garden parties, family celebrations and gatherings of friends can all be accommodated easily at the luxurious family home close to the heart of Elstree

Relaxing on his wide first floor balcony, Naseem Akhtar recalls how everyone in the family was involved in the creation of his spectacular home.
"We demolished the house that was originally on the site and had this one architect-designed," he said.
"All my family had a say in the designs for the new property. It needed to be big enough to accommodate four or five of us, and we wanted to create something unique."
He is especially pleased with his daughter's idea for a beautiful sweeping staircase that rises through a large, double height hall.
"I like the style. It creates a lot of space in the middle of the house, which gives guests a very good impression as they enter."

LIGHT AND SPACE
The house was completed in 2010 and decorated by Naseem's daughter, who has given the house a modern look, with pale colours and plenty of natural light.
"It's very peaceful, light and airy. The whole house feels bright and comfortable," said Naseem.
All year round there is something to enjoy, from fun in the garden in spring and summer to the sight of snow falling on the lawn in winter.
"One of my favourite things about the house is the first floor balcony. We have two large bedrooms at the back of the house, and from these you can look out over the balcony on to the garden.
"It is amazingly beautiful out there in spring, when all the leaves become green, but it's also lovely in winter, when you can watch the snow from the warmth of the bedroom."
Despite its size, the whole house feels warm and cosy in the winter, when the front sitting room comes alive with the glow and warmth of the state-of-the-art fire that lights at the touch of a button.

PERFECT FOR PARTIES
In the summer, the house feels fresh and airy, helped along by air conditioning in several rooms and gleaming marble floors on the ground floor. It is a perfect location for garden parties, when the large folding doors of the drawing room can be opened up to allow easy flow of guests in and out of the garden.
"We celebrated my daughter's wedding in the garden - we were able to accommodate 200 people easily."
The sleek, spacious kitchen makes the catering side of any party easy, and the flat, enclosed garden is a safe place for children to play.
"It's one of several things that make this an excellent family house," said Naseem.
An added bonus is the gym in the loft, which has been popular with several members of the family. Also popular is the bedroom, with en suite bathroom, kitchenette and study on the second floor, which would be ideal accommodation for a teenager, grandparent or member of staff.

IDEALLY PLACED
Set on a private road just a five to 10- minute walk from Elstree's high street and station, the house is ideally located for everything from local shopping to trips into the centre of London, which is only 17km away.
"This is probably the best location in Elstree, and there is plenty to do nearby."
For rural walks, a game of golf or a children's play area, there is a large park very close to the rear of the house that offers all three, and would also be a perfect place for dog walking, running or summer picnics.
While Naseem is now ready to move on, he knows that the Barham Avenue house will be a tough act to follow. Superbly located and packed with luxurious features, it is a true one-off, and could accommodate everyone from young children to elderly family members with ease.
"It is not easy to get this sort of house. It's such comfortable house, and is lovely to live in. I am certain that whoever lives here next will be very happy too."

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
When Naseem and his family worked with an architect to design their house, they left no stone unturned.
Two of the seven bedrooms have their own dressing rooms, and the ground floor includes three reception rooms.
A delightful feature is the ground floor terrace at the rear of the house.
"This is the perfect place to sit and enjoy the garden. It's a lovely, flat outdoor space surrounded by trees, which means that in spring it becomes beautifully green and tranquil."
