Built around 1820, 1 Waterloo Crescent is the major part of a crescent-shaped terrace of seven farmworkers' cottages that were built by French prisoners of war captured after the Battle of Waterloo. The crescent has been owned by the same family for over sixty years and number 1 was created in the 1980s from four of the original cottages and is now a lovely family home in a delightful rural setting. The front door opens from under the entrance porch to the dining hall, which has two window seats and is overlooked by the galleried landing, which runs the full length of the room. On one side a door leads through to the walk-through study, with further doors to the lean-to conservatory and the drawing room, which has an open fireplace. On the other side of the hall is the sitting room, which has doors leading out to the terrace and through to the kitchen/breakfast room. Beyond the kitchen are the laundry room, wet room and a door leading through to the combined double garage, workshop, garden store and gardener's WC. On the first floor at one end of the landing is the master bedroom with a walk-through dressing room and en-suite bathroom. At the other end of the galleried landing is a corridor with doors off to two further single bedrooms, the family bathroom and the guest bedroom, which has its own en-suite bathroom. The formal, walled garden is on the south-facing side of the house and is comprised of three areas of lawn, an attractive pond and a paved terrace.
