Full description

Tenure: Freehold

The Alexandra Hotel is superbly located on The Esplanade in Weymouth. The town is a perennial favourite for British holidaymakers who travel from far and wide to enjoy the gently sloping sandy beaches, charming harbour and coastal scenery. The hotel itself is freehold, unlike many on the seafront, has 14 letting bedrooms and a courtyard car park to the rear as well as all the advantages of being in the middle of town. It is only recently that online booking has been employed and as a result there has been a jump in turnover.

The mouth of the River Wey has been a port since Roman times and the town was granted a royal charter by Queen Elizabeth I, but it was King George III who put Weymouth firmly on the map as a resort when he visited to "take the waters of the English Channel". He became a regular visitor and is celebrated with a statue on the Esplanade. The harbour is very pretty indeed along with a very good shopping centre. The railway station is also close by. There is a lot to do in this part of the world, not least as Weymouth is right at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, but for many it is the sandy beach and sheltered bay which brings them back again and again.

It is now time for our clients to retire and this means there is an opportunity for new owners to take advantage of the property's location, the growing turnover and to bring a more commercial outlook to the business whilst retaining an attractive work/life balance. With a very busy season and quieter shoulder months owners can choose to take time away from the hotel which will suit many very well indeed, particularly those who wish to undertake extended travel or spend time with relatives. All in all, it's well worth a look.

THE PROPERTY

Grade II listed, built in the mid-1800s, this charming house is laid out on three floors plus basement and has rendered elevations with a slate roof.

The buffet breakfast is laid out on a couple of tables and the spacious Kitchen to the rear makes it easy to operate. From the Hall the Bar/Lounge is on the right. Also a through room, furnished with wicker or leather sofas and chairs, it is has a "snug" feel with the bar a real feature. The fireplace provides a focus but is not in use.

Our clients are happy to provide trading information for those who are particularly interested in the business. They started this in March 2012 so they are still benefiting from a significant year-on-year uplift from this simple IT change.
