Full description

Victorian terraced town house with 6 en suite bedrooms in the heart of St Andrews

7 Murray Place is a mid terrace house on Murray Place in the heart of St Andrews. Murray Place lies between North Street and The Scores. The Scores lies above the shoreline to the north of St Andrews and runs from the castle to the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and the world famous Old Course.

St Andrews is renowned world wide as the 'Home of Golf'. The Old Course is a regular host to the Open Championship including the next staging of the event, in July 2015. There are now six further golf courses run by the St Andrews Links Trust, including the new Castle Course opened in 2009. There are many other golf courses in the area including the Duke's Course, two courses at St Andrews Bay and Kingsbarns.

St Andrews is also well known for its university which is one of the oldest in Britain, founded in 1410. The town provides good state schooling at Madras College and private schooling at St Leonards, and Dundee High School is within easy reach. The town has a good range of shops, hotels, restaurants and recreational and cultural facilities. Beyond St Andrews is the East Neuk of Fife, with a spectacular coastline which boasts fishing villages built around picturesque harbours and sandy unspoilt beaches.

Access by rail, road and air is good. Leuchars railway station (4 miles) is on the main Aberdeen to London line and provides a fast link to Dundee and Edinburgh. Edinburgh Airport, with its increasingly wide range of domestic and international flights, is only 50 miles away and Dundee Airport (15 miles) and has regular services to London City. There is a dual carriageway and motorway connection to Edinburgh from Kirkcaldy (20 miles). An alternative route is via Cupar on the A91 to join the M90 at Junction 8 (25 miles).

7 Murray Place is a three storey terrace house built of stone under a pitched slate roof with dormer windows along the roofline. The property is thought to date back to 1895 and sits in the heart of St Andrews. It has large windows throughout which afford excellent natural light and has the benefit of a private courtyard garden to the rear.

A stone doorway with double outer storm doors opens to a vestibule from where a half boundry glazed inner door leads into the main entrance hall. From here there are stairs up to the first floor. Off the entrance hall is the front facing drawing room which has decorative cornicing, oak flooring and a fireplace with coal effect gas fire under an original wooden mantel. The entrance hall leads through to the dining room which also has oak flooring and shelved recesses as well as a window overlooking the rear of the property. Beyond here is the kitchen which is fitted with a range of floor and wall cupboards with an integrated 1½ sink unit, a Hotpoint double oven, five ring gas hob with extractor fan above, dishwasher and Vaillant combination central heating boiler. There is also an integrated fridge freezer and separate fridge. From here a half double glazed door leads out to the garden. The ground floor is completed by a laundry room with fitted shelves, plumbing for two washing machines, with WC, wash basin and cupboard below.

The stairs to the first floor lead up from the entrance hall. A half landing off the stairs leads to a rear facing double bedroom. It has an en suite bathroom with bath with shower attachment, WC, wash basin and heated towel rails. The stairs continue to the main first floor landing where there are two further double bedrooms both with fully equipped en suite shower rooms. There is also a study which could be used as a single bedroom.

The second floor has a further three bedrooms, two of which have en suite shower rooms with shower compartments, wash hand basins, WCs and heated towel rails. The third of these bedrooms is a single room which is serviced by a separate shower room with shower compartment, wash basin, WC and heated towel rail.

The courtyard garden is approached from the kitchen. It is fully paved with raised flower beds. There is a wooden store with tumble dryers and a further garden store.
