The Story

SET ON THE QUIET EXCLUSIVE WESTWARD RISE, THE HOUSE WAS JUST A STONE'S THROW FROM THEIR HOME AND IN AN EXCEPTIONAL POSITION, OFFERING LIGHT, SPACE AND A GREAT SENSE OF FLOW
The current owners lived just down the road for 10 years and knew only too well the many attractions of living in the area - then they saw the larger house was for sale and couldn't resist going along to see it.
"We loved it as soon as we went in," said one of the owners. "Stepping into it felt like a breath of fresh air. I liked the way that as you came into the hall you could go either to the left or the right and I remember thinking how sunny it was and that it felt like a very happy home."
The imposing four bedroom detached house, which was renamed Starlight View by the current owners, sits on Westward Rise, part of the prestigious Marine Heights and close to Porthkerry Country Park, the beach and Cold Knap.
"This is a very quiet area, just a short stroll from some breathtaking sea views. It is a peaceful place, within reach of everything you need, and yet so tranquil that you can hear the owls at night."

INTERIOR DESIGN
After moving into the house, the couple decided to bring their own style to its interiors, refurbishing it and adding some exquisite design touches.
"I have completed a interior design course and my partner is extremely good at carrying out work in the house. We could see the property had so much potential to become exactly what we wanted it to be."
Beautiful, golden, solid oak had already been laid in parts of the ground floor so this was carefully matched and continued. A cream Earthborn paint was brought into all the rooms to create a neutral backdrop for carefully chosen pieces of furniture. Superb new built-in wardrobes were made in the children's bedrooms.
"We also spent a significant amount of time on the outside of the house, painting it, concentrating on the gardens and creating a driveway in a lovely Cotswold stone colour."

COMFORTABLE LIVING
The whole house now has a shabby chic style, which both looks attractive and is easy to live with. The kitchen, featuring hand-painted cupboards, has a slightly vintage feel, while the summer room, with its exposed timber beams, is filled with character and light.
"I just love the dining area - I like to sit in there and look out at the garden. We also have a nice snug, which doubles as an activities room and is where my son has his PS3," she said. "I like the fact that people can be in different parts of the house here, doing different things. It works very well for a family."
HAPPY TIMES
Starlight View has also been a great place to entertain. With two separate enclosed gardens, and a decked area and pergola, many happy occasions have been spent outside in the spring and summer sunshine.
"We have had some lovely Easter celebrations and my daughter has had three parties here too. I often have the girls round for an evening and we can all sit in the summer room to chat while my partner can watch television in the drawing room."
The summer room is also a great space for quiet contemplation, she added.
"I like to go in there sometimes to read a book. It feels like you are sitting out in the garden."

BEAUTIFUL PLACE
She said new owners looking for a property to make their mark on could still find great potential in Starlight View. It might be possible, for example, (subject to the relevant planning permissions) to extend the snug out into the garage to create even more living space.
"But this house is also now ready to move into if that is what someone is looking for," she pointed out.
