The Story

Sitting down to breakfast out in the sunny courtyard, the owner of Heronston notes the serenity of the early morning in her Lisvane location.
This area is highly desirable for its combination of quiet village life and easy access to Cardiff and the M4. And within its setting, her home is something of a sanctuary itself.
"This property is on a beautiful site, which was in my husband's family for some time," she said.
"The house itself was rebuilt in 2007 and still has the feeling of being very new: it is modern and minimalist and very bright throughout because there is so much glass. It is a lovely family home and a great place for entertaining."

EASY LIVING
Two-storey Heronston has four bedrooms, three of which have en suite bathrooms. There is also a family bathroom.
"The family bathroom and two of the bedrooms, including the master bedroom, are upstairs on the first floor," she explained. "Two further bedrooms and en suite bathrooms are on the ground floor." This arrangement works well, creating different zones of the house for adults and teenage children, if required, or allowing guests to be comfortable while enjoying their privacy.
"The house is very well-designed in both the bedroom and the living areas."

OPEN-PLAN LIVING
Much of the living space at Heronston is openplan, with the kitchen, dining area and drawing rooms all leading into each other.
"This makes it great for family living as people can be in their own area doing whatever they like but they still feel involved in whatever else is going on," she said.
"We do have another reception room, the snug, where people can go off to sit quietly or watch television; so you do have a choice of joining in with everyone else or being on your own."

SUMMER PARTIES
This open space is also perfect for parties, with room for people to mingle and move about.
"We have big glass doors on to the terrace and courtyard area at the back of the house so people can sit outside too," she added.
"The large terrace is south-facing and is a lovely place to sit during the day. We also have the sun on the courtyard in the morning, making it a wonderful place for breakfast."
The garden is well-screened, featuring mature trees and a beautiful lawn.
"We held lots of parties out here for the children when they were younger - this garden is ideal if you have children as there is plenty of space to play."

COUNTRY FEEL
Situated up a quiet lane, the property enjoys a sense of seclusion.
"It is very private here," she said. "We can walk to the shop and into the village from here and we are in a good position for the train stations at Lisvane and Llanishen, and getting into Cardiff." At the same time, Heronston is ideally placed for those who enjoy an element of country living.
"I keep my horse nearby, just over the mountain, and love to ride in this area. It is also great for walking," she said. "There is also some beautiful woodland just up the road - it does feel very rural here, which is lovely."

THE BEST PLACE
Lisvane has featured as one of the Best Places to Live in Britain in the Sunday Times list - and it is not hard to see why. The affluent area, which lies five miles north of the centre of Cardiff, has railway stations nearby, with trains into the Cardiff stations, but also enjoys access to the countryside. Parc Cefn Onn is nearby and contains a magnificent collection of native and exotic trees set within an attractive valley.
