THE STORY

The magnificent house on Malting Green Road has been a splendid family home for the past two decades, says the current owners. The outstanding space and accommodation it has provided has made it the perfect place to enjoy with friends and to spend time as a family.
Screened from the road by the green of its surrounding trees and hedges, the substantial home is discretely concealed but as soon as visitors approach they are impressed by its beautiful setting. Once inside, they find it opens up into generous, bright living spaces, where people can flow easily between comfortable relaxation areas and out into the mature gardens of approximately 0.5 acres.
"We've had some fantastic times here," she says. "The house really lends itself for social and family gatherings which we have had on several occasions over the years. There is plenty of space to accommodate a number of people without feeling cramped. "

GLORIOUS LIGHT
The size and the space of the house give it a wonderful feeling of airiness. This is perhaps most evident in the garden room, which is attached to both the family room and the sitting room, and brings sunlight streaming into the home.
"It is a wonderful part of the house," says the owner. "We like it so much; we have a little balcony halfway up the stairs that looks out over the garden room and the whole view beyond."
Even on a dark winter's night, this room is perfect for entertaining: "We have a wooden table and chairs, where we can seat about 12. It is wonderful for large family gatherings like Christmas as there is plenty of room to relax. The view is especially beautiful when the garden is covered in snow knowing you are warm and cosy inside! ."

ALL SEASONS
As with the garden room, the spacious dual aspect sitting room is open and airy in summer and warm and inviting in winter.
"We have a large, exposed brick open fireplace, which is really lovely on winter nights. Sitting with the family around a roaring fire is one of the nicest things about living here."
But as well as the cosy fireside moments, this is a house prepared for all the fun and vibrancy of family living.
"The kids were always able to have their friends around without getting under each other's feet," she says. "We have the family room and the sitting room, but we also have the option of the cinema room as well which is the most enjoyable."

THE EAST WING
As well as the wonderful living space of the main house, there is a charming annexe on the side. Accessed through the kitchen, it boasts a bedroom, living space and bathroom.
"We have nicknamed it 'The East Wing,'" she smiles. "The bedroom has fitted wardrobes and there is also a living room that could be used as another bedroom if needed: it has allowed us to be very flexible and accommodating when guests stay."
She continues: "My mother in law lived in the annexe for about 10 years. It was really nice having different generations in the house."

HIDDEN SURPRISES
The kitchen is smooth combination of sleek granite work surfaces and chic wooden units. In addition to its delightful décor, the kitchen, unsurprisingly, offers expansive space.
"The kitchen used to be smaller but we extended out to incorporate the utility room. I really like the fact that we now have a more open area that allows the décor to flow and also provides more flexible storage. "
The amount of storage space available is incredible - one especially eye-catching feature is the floor-to-ceiling, built-in wooden wine rack.
"My favourite part is the granite island in the centre. Underneath it we have two additional built in fridges, which provides additional capacity when entertaining to dedicate to cold drinks, beer and wine. "

LIFE ON THE FIRST FLOOR
The first floor of the main part of the house features four bedrooms, and a renovated family bathroom. Unsurprisingly, the rooms here are also very generously sized.
"Two of the double rooms are ideal for older children as there is plenty of space and they both have built-in wardrobes that are well designed catering for all types of storage."
The same simple but pleasing colour scheme flows around the entire property. The family bathroom is an example of the property's exquisite, aesthetic appeal.
"We have refurbished it recently - it now has a deep inset bath surrounded with slate tiling and modern faucets," she adds. "It really looks fantastic."

SETTING THE SCENE

Surrounded by lush green foliage, the grounds of the house on Malting Green Road are a sight to behold. A large sun terrace links the garden room to the summer house and heated outdoor swimming pool.
"We mainly use it as a changing room but it has electricity so we have added a little fridge, television and treadmill - it's quite a nice home gym!"
Running between the front and back is a large barn structure that provides storage space, car parking and houses the pool machinery.
"The gravel drive is large enough for about eight cars - which is really handy for when family and friends visit "
