THE STORY

The current owners have never tired of the sight of their exquisitely pretty house and picture book garden. Built in the Arts & Crafts style in the 1940s, it is so attractive that a company once asked if they could photograph it for reproduction as a jigsaw puzzle.
The owners had lived in the village for 25 years and often admired the property. "We couldn't believe it when it came up for sale and we are able to purchase it - a dream come true."

ROMANTIC CHARM

White Cottage's romantic, deeply pitched roof, diamond leaded windows, and wrap-around garden have a fairytale charm. "With the woodland garden you feel a bit like goldilocks in the woods."
Previous owners had been horticulturalists, who took inspiration for the garden from Gertrude Jekyll and the Arts and Crafts movement."The beauty of it is that it doesn't feel like one garden: it has yew hedging separating one or two areas off - and we added fencing to make a safe play area for our young grandsons."
The previous owners left lots of charming details in the garden, including a weather vane shaped as a horse; a garden clock and an attractive stone trough under the kitchen window,

A FAMILY HOME

The house was bought 14 years ago, their children were teenagers, and they found the house perfect for family life. "A lovely thing about raising a family here is that we have an infant school, junior school and an academy in the village - which is convenient and creates a sense of community."
Happy memories of family life at White Cottage include several lovely parties. In summer, the terrace comes into its own as a place for hosting get-togethers, but the house has much going for it at any time of year.
"Most of the trees in the garden are coniferous, so it's as attractive in the winter as in the summer. In the winter we light the wood-burning stove in the sitting room, and we also have a cast iron open fireplace in the dining room, so it's very cosy and atmospheric."
"In summer the garden room/study opens onto the terrace and this encourages you to get outside and enjoy the garden."

DAYS OUT

White Cottage sits on the outskirts of Radcliffeon- Trent and has plenty of attractions and amenities on the doorstep. "It's a large village and you can be very self contained here if you wish because it has a range of shops, including two small supermarkets, plus one or two pubs, restaurants, a health centre, and of course the schools.
"There are pretty cliff-top and riverside walks within easy reach - but in addition to the country village aspect of it, you are only four miles from West Bridgford and five miles from Nottingham." Transport links are good too. There is a bus stop very nearby and a railway station in the village with services to Nottingham and the east coast. "East Midlands Airport is a 25-minute car journey away and we're situated between the M1 and A1, so our position is very good,"
"The thing we'll miss most is the sheer loveliness of this unique cottage and garden".

FUN AND RELAXATION

White Cottage is perfectly placed for a wide range of activities. West Bridgford is very popular with locals, who are drawn by its shopping centre and café bars Holme Pierrepont country park and water sports centre is close by, as are Nottingham Forest and Notingham County football clubs and the city of Nottingham, with its new art gallery, theatre and shops.
"There's a lot to see nearby, including the National Trust property of Belton House, Belvoir Castle, and Melton Mowbray - which is famous for pork pies and Stilton cheese,"
