"We were in our own world, with the golf course on three sides and then set within our own four acres. We would play croquet on the front lawn and at the bottom of the huge sweeping lawn, as you look towards the River Severn, there used to be a tennis court, which could possibly be reinstated by new owners if they wished."

MANY SPLENDOURED
Dating back to 1850, Vaendre Hall was built on a southern slope in a style similar to that of William Burn, a prominent architect of the time. With some exquisite Italianate features, it also echoes country manor houses of Tudor and Jacobean times.
"It was built by owners who were very well-known in the shipping business at the time. Local folklore has it that it was built on the foundations of an old monastery but as far as we know this has never been proved."
Detailing includes a Welsh slate roof, with some gable finials in the form of animals, mullioned windows and even some gargoyles.
"We have maintained the house in such a way as to retain the original features and decorate when need arose in a sympathetic manner utilizing materials as prescribed by the requirment of its listing status."

SPECIAL MEMORIES
Winter or summer, spring or autumn, there has always been something special to enjoy at Vaendre Hall.
"We have a huge reception hall, with a fireplace and oak panelling and you can be sitting in there in front of a roaring log fire in the winter, and it feels like the best place in the world. It is so spacious, with a high ceiling, and yet it still manages to feel cosy," he says.
"And I have so many memories of summer days too: sometimes we would take a big bench table out underneath the weeping willow tree and all six of us would sit there, under the umbrella of the
branches and leaves, watching a western on old black and white portable television, while we had lunch. It was just idyllic."

LAVISH ENTERTAINING
So many parties were hosted in the grounds of Vaendre Hall and within its elegant reception spaces. As well as the great hall, the drawing room, dining room and sitting room could also
accommodate large numbers of people.
"There were always wonderful occasions with all sorts of guests, including artists and titled people; visitors always called this 'the glue pot' because it attracted so many people and no-one ever wanted to leave."
With five bedrooms on the first floor, there is always space to welcome overnight guests.
"The bedrooms are all lovely but I remember how nice it was to sit on the balcony of my parents room, half in and half out, enjoying the view out over the sweeping lawn."

OUTSTANDING POTENTIAL
There is so much new owners could do to Vaendre Hall to make it their own. The coach house is currently used as a garage and workshop space but could have scope for other uses.
"The Lodge House is currently empty and used to be occupied by the gardener and house keeper. It could be a great project for someone keen to create more accommodation such as a guest cottage or a holiday property." he says. "The stables have three stalls and a separate one for stallions together with a tack room, they are used for storage but could easily be turned back into working stables if required."

While he would love to imagine another family living in the house he can also envisage it as an exceptional boutique hotel or high quality guest house.
"It is in an ideal location to become a hotel and my mother used to say she would love that to happen as it would be fantastic to see the place filled with people."

Setting The Scene

The mature grounds of approximately four acres at Vaendre Hall include sections of lawn and natural woodland. There is an area, which was once an orchard, and many different sections for
picnicking, playing games and just relaxing in the sunshine.
"We used to love the kitchen garden, with its lavender and climbing roses," the owner recalls. "We would gather there for barbecues - coming in and out of the house for food and appreciating the
beautiful setting."
There is an abundance of wildlife and the grounds hold all sorts of
possibilities for landscaping, growing fruit and vegetables and creating areas for entertaining.

Newport City Centre is the same distance in the opposite direction, with an out of town retail park and due to open in November is the fabulous new shopping centre Friars Walk which will be home to Debenhams and many more popular high street names.

Taking just 15 minutes to reach the cities of Cardiff and Newport Vaendre Hall is in a superb location. The M4 corridor is easily accessible making Bristol and London easy to reach. it also has easy access to the A470 taking you to Brecon and the A449 to the Midlands is just 4 junctions up the M4.

How To Get There

For Those Travelling from Newport come off the M4 at junction 28 follow the A48 towards Cardiff at the St Mellons roundabout take the 1st turning left, then turn left into Heronmarsh Pub/Restaurant and travel up Vaendre Lane from there, the gates to the property are located on the brow of the first hill on the left. You will notice a lodge and stone pillars mark the entrance.
