Full description

Built in 1879 as a house and surgery for the local doctor, the property was originally known as Braemount House. Now re-named and re-branded as ''Rum Doodle'', this unique B&B occupies a superb elevated position, commanding lovely views out over Windermere village towards the hills on the far side of the lake. Situated in a quiet corner of Windermere, guests benefit from a tranquil & relaxing location with shops & restaurants just a short walk away. With ample off-road car parking and delightful landscaped gardens, the owners, in their own words, have created a ''very different quintessentially English vintage-style haven'' offering luxury accommodation to rival many local hotels to which guests return again & again. With nine individually designed en suite bedrooms this lovely detached property enjoys wonderfully spacious and separate family accommodation, extending to three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is rarely available to owners of guest houses in the Lake District National Park. The distinctive character of this B&B has been recognised through recent glowing editorial in the national media, including 'Elle' & 'Homes & Antiques' magazines & in The Guardian, Sunday Telegraph & Daily Mirror newspapers. 'Rum Doodle' is consistently placed in Trip Advisor's top 10 places to stay in Windermere, in what is a very competitive market.

To many, Windermere is the essence of Cumbria The Lake District and Rum Doodle, being equidistant between Windermere & Bowness, is ideally placed for tourists to enjoy this glorious area. Lake Windermere England's longest lake is only a pleasant stroll away at Bowness Bay and is set amid a backdrop of glorious majestic fells. Not only are there so many rewarding walks around the lake but the visitor can also experience the spectacular viewing points of Gummers Howe, Orrest Head and Claiff Heights. The Lake District National Park has much more to offer than its awesome landscape. People come from all over the world to see the places which inspired the Lakeland poets, Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. . Altogether, the many cultural attractions and events help bring many thousands of visitors to this beautiful corner of England year after year.

Acquired by the present owners in 2010, they arrived with a vision to create a very different guest experience for visitors to their B&B. They changed its name to ''Rum Doodle'' after a much loved book - an iconic mountaineering spoof inspired by the author's holidays to the Lake District in the 1950s. Using the name as a very different USP to attract guests, they created an exceptional website & undertook an extensive refurbishment and re-styling of the rooms to complement its new name & vintage feel and create this unique B&B. They have been readily able to achieve superb occupancy on a Bed & Breakfast basis, allowing the business to achieve an excellent level of turnover and profitability. However, the owners have been offered exciting and lucrative projects in their former profession, which they would like to be able to pursue, offering a new owner the opportunity to continue building on the success of this most individual of businesses.
