The Story

Apple House may be completely different from the day its current owner first viewed it but it still offers the same sense of welcome she remembers from 20 years ago.
At the time the Turweston property offered just three bedrooms, now it boasts four in the main house and also comprises an outstanding self contained annexe.
“We were looking for a house in a village but from the outside I wasn’t sure this was exactly what I wanted,” she admits. “But from the moment I stepped in through the front door, I was smitten and knew this was where I wanted to live.
“It had such a lovely feel to it and was a large family home where I knew the children would have plenty of space to play. The house itself had a warm homely feel and the garden was just perfect in size.”

RIPE FOR PICKING
Apple House dates back to the very early 1900's and is thought to have originally been built as a single storey home.
“My father was from the village and my uncle still lives here,” she says. “My uncle says that when they were little the vicar lived here and he remembers coming to the house for Sunday school and watching cine films in the front room.”
Although she loved the house there were some improvements she knew she wished to make immediately, “We extended out over the garage adding two more bedrooms, what had been a smaller bedroom was then turned into a bathroom.”

SEPARATE LIVING
It was in 2006 that the property was further enhanced with the creation of the annexe.
“My mother moved in and we wanted to give her a self contained apartment so she could have her own space. We converted the garage to create a living area, bedroom, kitchen and shower room.”
The annexe has its own entrance but could easily become part of the main house. It could also be ideal for someone seeking to generate extra income by letting it out or offering bed and breakfast or it could suit someone wanting to work from home.

GLORIOUS VIEWS
Approximately 17 years ago a magnificent orangery was added on to the back of Apple House. This was designed to blend in beautifully and is accessed from the grand dining hall.
“This has really added to the sense of space in this house. It opens on to the garden and takes in the beautiful views out over the fields,” she says. “The dining room leads into the garden room making it ideal for entertaining, we have had lots of parties here over the years for both children and adults inside the house and out.”

WELCOME HOME
Although the children are grown up now, Apple House has been a home they have enjoyed returning to as often as possible.
“Whenever they are here with their partners, we all end up sitting round the table in the kitchen, chatting and eating together,” she says. “The dining room is perfect for special occasions and the drawing room is very cosy in the winter.”
She continues, “I also love my bedroom, it has a balcony where it is lovely to look out from in the morning. In the summer I like to keep the doors open all night which makes it feel as if I am sleeping in the garden!”

QUIET LIFE
The tranquillity of the semi rural location has been a great joy. There is nothing the family have enjoyed more than spending long summer days out in their garden.
“It is very secluded out there, it is a wonderful place to sit and relax and we have also had lots of happy times playing rounders or just watching the children run about with their friends.”
Life in the village has given them the tranquillity they were seeking but has also offered them easy access to Oxford, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Birmingham and London.
“You can be as involved as you like in village life here and we are about a mile from the centre of Brackley which means we can walk into town too if we wish,” she adds.
“This is a perfect place to be if you want to live somewhere quiet but within reach of everything you need and with good links to other parts of the country.”

Setting The Scene

Apple House sits in beautiful grounds of approximately half an acre overlooking the open countryside.
“It is a very long garden which is mostly just laid to lawn,” says the current owner. “But someone else could come in now and do something very special with it if they wished. We did have some plans for landscaping it drawn up at one time and there is certainly plenty of scope if new owners did want something a bit different.”
At the front of the house there is a private driveway with plenty of parking space for multiple vehicles.
