The Story

Sitting out beside the palm tree on the terrace at Casa Blanca, with the sun beating down, visitors could be forgiven for forgetting for a moment that they were in England.
The striking Art Deco house has a Mediterranean feel, with its expansive white façade and its bright interior spaces which open easily on to its garden.
“We moved here about 29 years ago because it seemed to be an ideal family home for us,” says one of the owners. “We were living in Harrow with our four children at the time and had heard how good the schooling was in this area. We also knew there were changes we would be able to make to this house if we wanted to including adding a swimming pool.”

LIGHT INTERIORS
Initial refurbishments were made to the house upon their arrival and then in 1993, when their fifth child arrived they extended and upgraded it again.
“There is now a good flow to the house, with rooms opening up nicely into each other and all of the five bedrooms are generous sizes – each can hold a double bed quite comfortably” she explains. “Inside the house we have tried to retain the Art Deco style. There is marble in the hall and the staircase is in wood and stainless steel.”
She adds: “This is a light house, with lots of rooms that are attractive for very different reasons.”

STREAMING SUNSHINE
In the mornings she says, she likes to get up early to spend quiet time in the drawing room.
“This room is also lovely when the sun comes shining through the bevelled glass, making beautiful prisms on the walls. It is also wonderful when the sun shines on the swimming pool and the reflection comes back into the room” she says.
“This is a large room which is perfect for accommodating lots of people; we have five sofas in here as well as armchairs so everyone can be quite comfortable.”
With doors that open up on to the terrace and swimming pool, family members and guests can easily spill outside too when the weather is warm.

SUMMER AND WINTER
Casa Blanca has been a superb family home adapting to meet the needs of the family as the children have grown up and grandchildren have arrived.
“We now have eight grandchildren and so on Christmas Day there are never less than 25 of us but there’s always space – and the children have lots of places where they can go off and play” she says. “In the summer, many weekends are spent by the pool with the children jumping in and out and everyone enjoying the sunshine and having a barbecue.”
She continues: “This has been a great place for entertaining: we have had the children’s engagement parties here, weddings, christenings and lots of birthdays.”

CENTRAL LOCATION
The location of the house has also worked well for the family giving them good access to schools, shops and transport links. The couple travel regularly and find they can reach major roads and airports easily from the house.
“Gerrards Cross has come on a lot in our time here. It is a lovely place to live because it still has a country village feel and yet it has lots of shops and is well-placed for getting into London. People here are very friendly and there are lots of activities to take part in if you choose.”

COUNTRY WALKS
With the beautiful countryside of the Chiltern Hills on the doorstep there are opportunities for rambling, cycling and horse-riding. Local people often walk up to Bulstrode Park Camp, a preserved area of land which was an Iron Age fortified encampment. “This is a great area to live in if you have dogs and like to go walking” she adds. The family do plan to stay close by as they like the convenience of the area she admits but the time has come to look for a home with a smaller garden she believes.
“We have loved everything about being here for so long however” she says. “It has been a fantastic family home and we will miss the space when we go.”

Setting The Scene

Set behind remotely operated gates, Casa Blanca enjoys grounds of approximately half an acre.
At the front of the house there is a generous drive with ample parking for a number of vehicles. At the back, the drawing room opens up on to a large terrace and barbecue area as well as the outdoor heated swimming pool. Here there are also lawns and beds of mature shrubs and trees.
There is a timber double garage at the house plus an outbuilding and store and a covered walkway utility area.
