The Story

Sitting down on the jetty on a summer’s afternoon, watching her family have fun out on the water, Cheryl enjoys the utter serenity of the magical setting of her home.
Maendy Isaf is set in approximately two acres of its own glorious gardens, including immaculate lawns, beautiful borders and even a private lake.
“We have really enjoyed everything about the gardens here, from the beautiful, mature trees and all the seating areas to the large lake, which is home to eight ducks,” she says. “We built a jetty by the water when we first came here and in the summer the children used to enjoy rowing out from it. It is nice to sit down by the lake and the children even swam in it once when it was really hot!”

CHARACTER HOME
Cheryl and her family moved to Maendy Isaf 13 years ago, having been attracted by the stunning setting and the exceptional space both inside and out.
“We believe the house is over 500 years old and that it was originally a farmhouse. It is very, very pretty and totally different from any other house I have ever seen.”
Today the limestone built property includes generous reception areas, as well as four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
“It has been extended over the years and now offers a mixture of some character cottage like areas, with original features, and other more modern rooms,” says Cheryl.
“The bedrooms are all cosy and nice with lovely views out across the farmland.”

INVITING ROOMS
Rooms such as the drawing room and sitting room have an abundance of country house charm with their high ceilings, beams and elegant furnishings.
“We have two fireplaces, a beautiful inglenook, with a dog grate for a log fire, in the drawing room and then a fireplace with a wood burner in the sitting room.”
Over the years the house has been carefully maintained and decorated. Many rooms have been kept pale in colour to maximise the sense of space.
“Most of the rooms on the ground floor have been painted in a Farrow & Ball cream shade, which makes everywhere feel nice and light,” she says.

SEASONAL JOY
With a dining hall and large kitchen breakfast room, in addition to the drawing room and sitting, there has always been ample family space at Maendy Isaf.
“The kitchen has definitely been a favourite room, it is so large that there is plenty of space for everyone to gather in there and sit round the table,” Cheryl says. “On special occasions we might use the dining room and at Christmas we like to light the real fire and relax in the drawing room.”
She adds: “This is very much a Christmas home, it looks wonderful at that time of year.”

SPECTACULAR SETTING
There have been so many happy occasions at Maendy Isaf to look back on, Cheryl continues.
“The first year we moved in we celebrated my husband’s 50th birthday here, we have also had my daughter and son’s 30th birthday parties and my father in law’s 90th,” she says. “There have been lots of fireworks’ nights here too, I think I will miss that when we leave. It has been such a wonderful place to entertain. If you have the weather, there could not been anywhere more beautiful to host a large party or barbecue than these gardens. And if the weather is not good there is so much inside space to enjoy instead.”

CITY AND COUNTRY
So breath taking is the property’s setting that it is hard to believe at times that it is so well connected.
“It is easy to get to Newport, Cardiff and the M4 from here, as well as Cardiff and Bristol airports, there are good schools, shops and supermarket and family activities and a new shopping complex is opening up soon, which will have lots of high street stores.”
There are places to play golf, go horse riding and to walk or cycle. The Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk, the Rhymney River Circular Walk and the Llwyn Hir Forestry Walk all meet up at nearby Draethen.
“You can enjoy peaceful living in a beautiful setting here yet you are within reach of everything you need,” Cheryl says. “If someone is looking for a dream country home then this has everything they are likely to imagine.”

Setting The Scene

The delightful parkland gardens at Maendy Isaf extend to approximately two acres of land, the garden was designed and created by Cheryl's husband John. There are electric double gates at the entrance, plus a triple garage, which has electric doors.
The house sits in an elevated position, with its terrace giving plenty of space for outside dining, entertaining and soaking up the views. The attractive lake has its own boat and decked area for waterside relaxation. There are ponds in the garden, as well as elegant lawned areas, secluded corners, beautiful beds and lots of mature trees.
