SETTING THE SCENE

The Emblems is set within grounds of approximately 3.6 acres (STLS). It is entered via a gated private driveway and enjoys mature, secluded and fully landscaped gardens.
There is an outside swimming pool, an entertaining terrace and a detached double garage with two additional rooms. The property also includes two stables and a paddock.

MODERN LIVING

The Emblems was very much his dream home when he first saw it 11 years ago. "I had been looking for just the right place for a number of years," he admits. "When I saw this place I knew it was perfect - the location was ideal and it sat well within its own 3.5-acre plot and was not overlooked." The original house dated back to the 1920s and had a lean-to attached to it. This he decided to remove and replace with a modern extension. "At the same time as carrying out the building work, we refurbished the house: we renovated everything and updated the electrics and the plumbing. In all, we spent a year working on it before moving in, making it into a large, comfortable family home, with the right accommodation for us."

FAMILY SPACE

Today The Emblems offers superb and substantial living space. It features five double bedrooms, three bathrooms and three main reception rooms, as well as a conservatory, office and basement games room. "The Clive Christian kitchen breakfast room is very much the hub of the home and is great as it looks out over the garden," he says. "The games room is also fantastic: this is used as a television or cinema room and is another great family area."

SPECIAL CELEBRATIONS

Upstairs, the five double bedrooms all have a sumptuous finish. Both the master bedroom and the guest room have en suite bathrooms. "The master bedroom also has a dressing room and a balcony that is south-facing and looks out towards the wonderful views." With such generous room it has been easy to accommodate guests at The Emblems. "There is also so much reception space downstairs, making the house ideal for parties," he adds. "The garden lends itself well to a marquee: we have had lots of great occasions here over the years, from big birthday parties for family members to barbecues and corporate events."

OUTDOOR LIFE

The expansive grounds are always enjoyed when the house is filled with people. Many happy summer days have been spent lounging round the pool with family and friends. There are also two stables and a paddock, where the owner's wife has kept horses over the years. The large double garage, with its additional rooms, also holds potential for anyone who enjoys outdoor living, with practical space for boats and other equipment. "We have had lots of pleasure here - the garden, which has lots of mature trees is large but is also very easy to maintain and very private."

PERFECT LOCATION

We wanted to be in a village near Shenfield when they found Doddinghurst and life here has proved to be even better than he had imagined. "Before we came to view it that first time, we did not even realise the house was here as it was set well back and down a country lane," he recalls. "It is so tucked away, in fact, that people often drive past it. It feels like it is right in the heart of the countryside yet it is so convenient for everything we need. I play golf and there are lots of clubs to choose from in the area, and it is less than 15 minutes to Chelmsford, with its cinema, shops and restaurants." He adds: "We are moving now as we are downsizing but we will be sad to leave this house. It is a great place to be and when it is sunny and bright it really is like being abroad."
