The Story

Sitting out in their tranquil garden, the owners of the house on Highgrove Avenue admire the beautiful landscaping from the attractive terrace they have created.
In the decade they have lived here, they have upgraded and improved their home to suit their own needs as a family and to add to its already great appeal.
The five bedroom house was newly built when they bought it and had been completed to a high standard, within a desirable Ascot setting.
“We loved the location,” one of them says. “It was on a quiet cul de sac and felt very secluded. It was very secure for the children, we knew they would be able to play outside quite safely.”

FLEXIBILITY AND FLOW
The modern home offered both generous space and character, he continues. “The front of the property was specially designed to feature some stonework, which does give it additional interest,” he says. “The inside of the house was also very impressive. We loved the large entrance hall and the way it all just flowed on from there. It was spacious and very well laid out.” The reception areas offered the family great flexibility, with the possibility of rooms being rearranged for different purposes as the need arose. “We liked the fact there was a very large drawing room and then a second reception room, which could also be a dining room, but we decided to use as a family or television room,” he points out.

BRIGHT INTERIOR
The airy ambience continues upstairs at the Highgrove Avenue house, where rooms are also a good size: “There is a nice big landing on the first floor and both the master bedroom and guest room have en suite bathrooms. The master bedroom also has a spacious dressing area.” The whole house has been redecorated twice since the family moved in, ensuring a bright, fresh feel throughout. “I chose an apple white shade for all the rooms, this works well with the furniture and makes the house very easy to live in. It also means someone else could move in straight away without having to worry about redecorating,” he adds.

FAMILY DAYS
The large rooms have made family life very comfortable over the years. The long drawing room, with its attractive fireplace and French windows on to the garden is perfect for large gatherings on special occasions. “The kitchen is superb as it has plenty of space for everyone to sit down to breakfast or other family meals together,” he says. “And having the family or television room has also been ideal as it means there’s always somewhere to sit quietly.” He adds: “We have had some very happy occasions in this house, including my wife’s birthday party, with up to 40 family members or friends, and where guests have been able to spread out into the garden as well as around the house.”

ATTRACTIVE GARDEN
The garden is very much an extension of the house in the warmer months, with the family choosing to dine outside or relax in the sunshine as often as possible. “We flattened the land and created a large Indian slate terrace, where there is room to sit out and to entertain guests,” he says. “There is also a nice area of grass, where children can play. We have really enjoyed it since carrying out the work, it is a very tranquil and private place to spend time.” Subject to the relevant planning permissions, the garden offers enough space that there could be the potential to extend the house, he suggests. The loft, which has been boarded out, could offer scope for the creation of an additional bedroom and bathroom: “Other homes in this area have been extended outwards or up into the loft space,” he points out.

SUPERB LOCATION
The owners are sad to be leaving their Highgrove Avenue home but have decided to downsize as their children have now grown up and moved out. The couple hope to stay in the area, finding it offers them just the right balance of convenience, accessibility and tranquillity. “We have enjoyed being within walking distance of Ascot Racecourse, and having Windsor, with its castle, park, leisure facilities and shops so close by. We like being able to walk by the river there,” he says. “Travelling into London is very easy from here, either by train, bus or road and we have good access to the M4 motorway, connecting to the M25. There are also some top private and state schools in the area, including the highly sought after Charters School.” And he adds: “This has been a wonderful community to be part of, we will miss it a great deal when we leave.”
