The Story

VERSATILE HOME
The house lends itself well to all sorts of different living arrangements, she continues. It can be adapted to suit the needs of its owners and has evolved in the time she herself has been here.
“At the moment I use one of the rooms downstairs as a bedroom. This has an en suite wet room and its own private entrance so not only could it be made into a sitting room or family space by new owners but it could also be perfect as a gym or even an office for someone who wanted to work from home,” she explains. “There is also a door on to the garden so whoever is using the room can wander outside to have a cup of tea on the terrace in the fresh air in the morning.”

HAPPY TIMES
The ground floor of Oakville also comprises a spacious entrance hall, where the ornate staircase makes an attractive feature. There is a generous drawing room, large kitchen breakfast room, spacious utility room and separate dining room.
“It has been a great place for entertaining and having family over,” she suggests. “There are double doors that can be opened up between the drawing room and dining room, creating one large space. We have had some wonderful Christmases there: opening our presents by the tree and then sitting round the table for Christmas dinner.”

WORK AND PLAY
Five bedrooms can be found on the first floor of the substantial house. Three of these have their own en suite shower rooms, and two have dressing rooms. There is also a family bathroom.
“The largest bedroom has space for a sitting area too and could be ideal for a teenager or perhaps an older relative. I have had it arranged as a library and music room, and my daughter has used it for her complementary therapies.”
The owner has enjoyed being able to welcome friends and family to stay in great comfort. In the summer she and her guests have sat outside in the mature garden, soaking up the afternoon and evening sunshine.
“There have been so many happy occasions here: we have had barbecues in the garden and everyone has enjoyed being able to get together.”

GENEROUS SPACE
The space and versatility of Oakville mean it lends itself to all sorts of possibilities. Rooms could be arranged as self-contained areas and there are several parts of the home that could be ideal as work or leisure spaces.
“There is also a summerhouse in the garden that could be made into an office or hobby room by new owners if they wished to create a separate area away from the main house,” she suggests. “This is also a property with lots of excellent storage. All the bedrooms have fitted cupboard space and both the kitchen and utility room have plenty of units. There is a large cupboard under the stairs, which the people who lived here before made into a den for their children.”

IDEAL PLACE
The house is a relaxing place to spend time and the village is very friendly. It has also been a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside and reaching beautiful beaches in the area.
“I am sad to be leaving but we are moving now because we are relocating,” she explains. “I will miss all the space we have here and the great convenience of the location. I would say it is the perfect place to be, it is quiet and feels secluded yet everything you need is extremely accessible.”

Setting The Scene

The gardens at Oakville are extremely mature and erupt into spectacular colour throughout the year.
“In the autumn they look particularly attractive, with all the reds and golds,” says the owner.
The front garden is laid to lawn and has an array of shrubs and trees, and a semi-circular driveway. The rear garden catches the sunshine throughout the afternoon and evening, and features paved terraces and various lawned areas. There is also an attractive pond and a summerhouse.
