There are a number of well regarded local schools including three local primary schools and senior schooling at Peebles High School, all located within walking distance from the house. Peebles is ideal for commuting to the central belt, with Edinburgh only 24 miles to the north, and the M74 motorway link to the south about a 25 mile drive away. Both Glasgow Airport (about 59 miles) and Edinburgh Airport (about 26 miles) have a growing number of flights to many domestic and international locations. There are regular bus services from Peebles to the centre of Edinburgh.

Peeblesshire is one of the most beautiful and accessible parts of the Scottish Borders. With its rolling hills, farmland and woodlands the area is well renowned for its outdoor activities. The River Tweed is one of the most prolific salmon rivers in Scotland and shooting can be arranged on nearby estates. There are a number of golf courses at Peebles, Cardona and Innerleithen.
