The firm built schools in Glasgow including Glasgow Academy and admired work of Alexander "Greek" Thomson. Other local projects for Barclay included Beaumont Gate, Dowanside Road and Kensington Gate.
The original plans use the name Alton Street but this was soon changed to Queen's Gate and then changed again to Dowanhill Street in the 1940's but Queen's Gate is still what it is referred to by longstanding Westenders.
