Charterhouse has a very proud history. As part of the former RAF Manby the base played host to the Air Armament School as well as housing the Joint Services Bomb Disposal Unit. RAF Manby later became the home of the College of Air Warfare and in 1974 was taken over by East Lindsay District Council and turned into a successful business park. In 2011 IDL received full planning permission to build a major new residential development of 42 properties on the former base. Significantly with no social housing requirement.
