The Story

Terry admits he is proud of his appealing Llwydcoed home. His spacious five bedroom house was built in 1994, on a generous plot to his own exacting specifications.
“I wanted it to be of a very high quality and to have the feel of a traditional property,” he explains. “Design features, such as hipped roofs, large windows, quality brickwork and an elegant approach up a short flight of steps to the main entrance, with a classic front door, all help to give it a create a stylish, impressive property." And he jokes: “It is not Downton Abbey but none the less a real gem in its own right.”

VILLAGE LIFE...Home In The Country
LIwydcoed is regarded as a semi-rural village which is mainly a result of it being on the edge of Agricultural land and open countryside (Brecon Beacons National Park). The village itself has many large specimen trees and hedgerows which add to the feel of a rural community. A church, village pub (with great food) and an active successful brass band which goes back to 1912 completes the picture.

VERSATILE HOUSE
The current property offers generous and versatile accommodation.
“The size of the house (around 3000sq ft) and layout offers a high degree of flexibility when deciding how rooms are used. Within reason, it was always the intention for rooms to have differing uses as the needs of the family changed,” The large guest room, which has an en suite shower room and walk in wardrobe, has proved incredibly useful over the years and provides visitors with a high level of privacy, almost a separate apartment.

WITH POTENTIAL
When Nant-y-Deri, whose name relates to the nearby stream and oak trees, was first being planned, there was planning consent for two properties on the site.
"The second property was not built at that time but approval has been recently granted for the building of a three bedroom detached house," Terry explained. "This could be an ideal solution for an extended family."

LIGHT ROOMS
When it was built, the property was positioned to take advantage of as much natural light as possible.
“The large windows ensure light, bright airy rooms that are flooded with sunlight for a large part of the day,” says Terry. “For example, the drawing room has triple aspect windows.”
The house was also designed to offer good flow between the rooms. There is a guest room above the garage, which has an en suite shower room, and ensures visitors can enjoy their privacy.
“There is also a high specification, brick built summerhouse, which is set on a raised terrace opening on to an octagonal hardwood decking area. Built with cavity walls, and with power and lighting, it lends itself to a number of uses including an office, study, art or music room.”

EXCEPTIONAL LAYOUT
The design of the property ensures a natural flow between rooms. The drawing room with a Bath Stone fireplace is a formal room with a country house style. In contrast, the TV snug has been set up to feel more contemporary.

PERFECT HOME
The location of Nant-y-Deri is ideal for anyone seeking to balance country living with convenience. It is within easy reach of the beautiful Brecon Beacons, where activities such as pony trekking, cycling, climbing and walking take place.
“We are within 15 minutes of some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Wales, as well as hills and canals,” Terry points out. “The closeness of the A465 means there is a dual carriageway straight through to Swansea, Mumbles and The Gower, which supports a range of water based pursuits or just leisurely walks on some of the finest beaches in the country.”
Looking back, Terry believes he would change nothing about his home, everything about it has been perfect.
“The design of Nant-y-Deri is timeless and if I went back in time I would have the same house built in the same location,” he says.

Setting The Scene

The mature grounds at Nant-y-Deri have given Terry as much pleasure as the house.
“They have provided a wonderful space to spend time being creative, entertaining or just relaxing,” he admits.
A feature of the landscaping is an interesting combination of sub-divided lawned areas and terracing, with a wide variety of mature shrubs, trees and hedges.
“The design incorporates areas for enjoying the outdoors through four very nicely positioned terraces, which catch the sunshine at different times of day,” he adds.
