The Story

Entertaining friends on the lavish terrace he created at his impressive home, the owner of the house at Vaendre Court appreciates the sense of seclusion at his luxury home. The impressive four bedroom house was built in the style of a Dutch barn and has been embellished with a few touches of his own in recent years.
“This is one of just six houses on this private, gated cul de sac,” he explains. “It is the largest of the properties and once owned all the land around it. When we first saw it we were struck by the sheer space it offered inside. It is the kind of house that is perfect for a large family or someone who enjoys entertaining; it has bedrooms of a good size, lots of reception space and a very large garden.”

ORNATE TERRACE
In order to enhance this magnificent outside area, he spent considerable time designing the fabulous relaxation terrace.
“It goes round the house and features beautiful balustrades and steps that go down to the lawn. I decided to use Brazilian slate, which is of a very high quality and does not fade over time. We have had some wonderful occasions out there since it was built: lots of parties and barbecues, with everyone sitting out in the sunshine and children riding their bikes around,” he says. “It was a major investment but has been well worth it.”

BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN
When the owners moved into the substantial property their three children were still living at home. There was room for everyone to have a generous bedroom each and the reception areas were ideal for quality time together and for welcoming friends.
“The kitchen in particular is out of this world,” he says. “It opens into the family room and breakfast room and has a beautiful halogen hob, double oven and American fridge freezer that will stay as it fits in so well.”
Improvements to the house have included adding bifolding doors to the dining area. Now in the warmer weather these can be pulled right back to give access on to the terrace.
“These doors really bring the outside in,” he points out. “And, again, make it wonderful for entertaining. We have had lots of good times here, when the children come home or friends come over, we sometimes have 30 or 40 people here.”

FURTHER ENHANCEMENTS
There is still scope for further enhancements to the beautiful property, however. There is a summerhouse in the garden which could be turned into a superb gym or office, he suggests.
“We also have planning permission for an extension the width of the house that would make one of the bedrooms upstairs much bigger and would also allow for the creation of a snug downstairs. We haven’t carried it out ourselves because all our children have left home now and we have decided it is time to downsize but it is certainly something someone else might like to consider.”

IDEAL SITUATION
The couple hope to stay in the area when they leave. Their home offers them privacy and seclusion yet it is just five minutes from the M4 and there is good access to Cardiff city centre.
“There are some very good schools around and the golf club is just five minutes’ drive from here. My wife and I were both born within three quarters of a mile of this house and believe it offers everything you could want,” he adds.

GORGEOUS GARDEN
The property is something of a secluded haven. It is enclosed in part by high specification Colourfence and is surrounded by leafy, mature trees.
“You come off the road into this very private area, which is set back and just so peaceful,” he says. “In fact, when you are sitting outside in the back garden you could hear a pin drop.”
The family have taken great pleasure in their garden, enjoying the immaculate lawn as much as the elegant terrace.
“I will miss sitting outside here in the summer and cutting the grass, which I find very therapeutic,” he admits. “The garden and the terrace have given me great joy and I can imagine another family coming here now and gaining as much pleasure from it as we have.”

Setting The Scene

Access to Vaendre Court is via decorative wrought iron gates into the private gated community of six individual properties. The plot is generous in size offering front rear and side gardens. To the front there is an abundance of off road parking, with in excess of six spaces on the forecourt and additional parking in the generous double garage.
The rear garden is south facing and looks on to mixed woodland. There is a substantial terrace laid with Brazilian slate and lawned gardens with some decorative planting. The property benefits from a large brick summerhouse that could potentially be converted in living accommodation.
