Full description

Tenure: Freehold

A simply enchanting 2 bedroom Grade II Listed cottage, believed to have been built around the 1580's, brimming with character and located in the wonderfully historic village of Corfe Castle, famous for Enid Blyton, steam trains and magnificent castle ruins.

The front door opens into a long HALLWAY which in turn leads into a charming SITTING/DINING ROOM; large inglenook fireplace with multi-fuel burner/stove inset, original beams and storage, wide window seat and glass and timber door to the garden. A door leads to the KITCHEN which has a large PANTRY, space for an electric oven, washing machine and fridge. A side window and two dormer windows make this a light sunny room. From here a door leads to the LOBBY, with doors to the BATHROOM, a good sized with deep bathtub with shower over, WC and wash hand basin and also to the lovely rear garden.

From the sitting room surprisingly wide stairs rise to the FIRST FLOOR and bedroom accommodation. BEDROOM 1, a double room overlooking the front of the property and with built-in wardrobe and BEDROOM 2, a further double, also with built-in wardrobe, overlooks the rear garden.

Outside
As with many of the original cottages in Corfe Castle the front of the property is accessed directly from East Street. The pretty REAR GARDEN, is surprisingly large; laid to lawn and with the use of shrubs, sectioned into 2 parts with a path leading to the side. There are mature trees, shrub borders, part hedging and part fencing. There are two timber sheds, one a very good workshop size and halfway down the garden, tucked away, is the original ‘privvy’, now a storage shed. At the end of the long garden is gated access and views across the common.

Location
The village of Corfe Castle is overlooked by the ruins of its historic castle built in 1086, perched above the village on the hill. It is suggested that some of the stones from the castle ruins were used in the building of the village, offering a new slant on the saying ‘your home is your castle’ and making the village one of the most attractive in Dorset. Other family attractions include a model village, the village museum, famous steam railway, many interesting shops, and historic connections to Enid Blyton and the Famous Five! Equidistant between the riverside market town of Wareham and the seaside town of Swanage.

Directions
From Wareham take the A351, signposted Corfe Castle and Swanage. Continue towards the village of Corfe Castle. Follow the road through the centre of the village and around into East Street. The property will be found on the right hand just past the village school which is on the left hand side.
