Street is a popular and busy town in the heart of Somerset with a population of around 12,000. Much of the history of the area is dominated by Glastonbury less than 2 miles away and its name comes from a causeway which was built to transport local blue lias stone to build the Abbey. The Quakers had become established by the mid-17th century and a Quaker family, the Clarks, started a business which became the well known shoe company which still has its headquarters in Street.
