General Remarks & Situation - Abercegir is a small village set about 1 mile from the Machynlleth - Newtown road. Set in a valley which is a tributary to the River Dyfi, Factory Isaf is about 300 yards from the village boundary and benefits from around 10 acres of mostly level pastureland, the lower fields all being watered naturally from the Afon Gwydol. Most probably the last water powered Woollen Mill in the County of Montgomeryshire, closing in 1964. The mill and its associated infrastructure was, at its height in the First World War, providing quality woollen flannel for the war effort. Worthy of note is the inclusion in sale of an original spinning wheel and the last woollen blanket produced at Factory Isaf, along with other historical artefacts. Much of the wheel workings can be clearly seen, the highlight being the 20ft diameter, 10 spoke, 30 bucket mill wheel cast at the Newtown foundary in 1859 by the mill wright Samuel Owen. The fulling stocks, with wooden mallets and tappet wheel are one of only four in their original location in Wales. There is also an historic pelton wheel adjacent to the mill wheel.
