The Story

There’s nothing like returning home to the White Cottage at the end of a busy day at work. Tucked away in almost an acre of land and screened by mature, leafy hedging, the house in desirable Stoke Poges is something of a sanctuary. The current owner bought the attractive home, which is located near the world famous Stoke Park Golf and Country Club, about 11 years ago.
“We were looking for a larger home and knew the area well as members of our family already lived in the road,” he explains. “This house was a perfect size for us and it was in a very peaceful position. I knew this would be a good place to come home to after work, somewhere that was really relaxing.”

ELEGANT RECEPTION ROOMS
The White Cottage is believed to be about 30 years old. It offers generous accommodation, including a reception hall, double aspect drawing room and double aspect sitting room or family room, with French doors on to the garden. There is also a rear aspect dining room, which is currently arranged as a snooker room or games room, and a long kitchen breakfast room.
“The ground floor of the house also currently includes a bedroom, with French doors on to the garden, but this could be used as a study if that suited the requirements of the new owners better.”

FAMILY HOME
Upstairs, there are five more bedrooms, including the sumptuous master suite, with its walk in dressing room and large en suite bathroom.
“I love this room, again it is a very restful space and the perfect place to relax after a busy day,” he says. Four more family or guest bedrooms are located on the first floor and there are also two family bathrooms.
“This has been a great family house, with plenty of room for everyone and lots of space to accommodate visitors as well,” he adds.

PARTIES AT HOME
With such substantial reception space and the beautiful terrace and lawned grounds to the rear, White Cottage has been a magnificent entertaining home. There is room for grand dining, dancing and mingling inside and in the summer months the secluded grounds are ideal for garden parties.
“We have had lots of special occasions here over the years but the one that really stands out is my son’s wedding. We had somewhere between 80 and 100 people in the house but it was still extremely comfortable,” he says. “The rooms here are so spacious that entertaining inside is very easy. If someone did wish to put a marquee up in the garden they could easily have 200 to 300 people here and there would also be room for parking.”

LOOKING AHEAD
The bright interior at White Cottage enhances the feeling of space. Attractive character features sit within light rooms, which have been given added interest here and there through splashes of strong colour.
“We have made cosmetic changes in our time here,” the owner says. “We have decorated it in a style that we feel works well with the house itself and with the beautiful hardwood parquet flooring that we have in three of the ground floor rooms and in the hall.” But, he stresses, there is huge potential for new owners to take White Cottage even further. Subject to the relevant planning permissions it could be opened up inside, extended out to the side or back, or given additional bedroom and bathroom space within the loft. “Someone could even apply for planning permission to take the whole house right down and build something else on the site. There could be space for two five bedroom houses here, our neighbours added two properties to their plot, alongside their existing home, about 12 or 13 years ago.”

PEACEFUL PLACE
The Stoke Poges setting of the house certainly makes it a very desirable place to consider development. According to the current owner, there are many attractions to the location.
“It is wonderful to live somewhere so peaceful that also offers easy access to good schools, shops and the train station with trains into London. I can be at Paddington from Slough within 20 minutes,” he says. “We are close to lots of lovely parks to walk in and there are plenty of places to enjoy sports close by too. We have been very happy here and will miss both this area and the luxury of the beautiful house, with its large rooms, when we leave.”

Setting The Scene

The mature grounds at White Cottage provide a beautiful backdrop to the attractive house. Extending to approximately 0.9 acres, they are currently largely laid to lawn but could be developed to suit new owners.
To the front, there is a well screened driveway parking area, with space for a number of vehicles, plus a detached double garage. At the back, the generous garden is enclosed level garden and features a paved terrace for entertaining and outside dining.
