The Story

HIGH QUALITY
Uma Barn was built to offer contemporary living space but with sympathy for its countryside and woodland surroundings. It was designed to incorporate four bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as generous reception and kitchen dining room space.“My aim was to make it like a five star hotel,” he explains. “I wanted it to be ultra modern and of a very high quality, with features such as stone bathrooms and a stunning kitchen. And, although it was completed 10 years ago now, everything still looks very contemporary.”

OPEN-PLAN LIVING
The property was finished to a high specification throughout and was designed to offer bright, airy living.“I wanted a home that had an open-plan feel,” says the owner. “I like the idea of having living space where you can spend time together without feeling closed off. This arrangement is ideal if you like entertaining – you can talk to your guests while you are cooking and people can move about easily.” And he adds: “In the summer months they can also walk straight out into the garden.”

SOCIAL SPACE
Over the years he has enjoyed socialising at Uma Barn: it is the perfect place to relax with friends over a Sunday barbecue or to host major celebrations with lots of guests. “You do feel you have the space here to invite lots of people – certainly I have held a number of big parties since I have been here.” With four bedrooms and three bathrooms it is easy to accommodate guests. This is a home that could suit a family or a couple or individual with friends who frequently come to stay.

PLACE OF PEACE
Uma Barn is also something of a sanctuary for anyone with a busy working life. It is a calm place to return home to at the end of the day and to unwind at weekends. “It is so peaceful and beautiful here that people do like to come to stay,” he says. “I love coming back here after work. The master bedroom is a particularly nice, relaxing room, with its low, Zen-style bed and its glass wardrobes.” He adds: “You wake up to the sound of the birds in the morning and to the views out over the fields, where there are horses.”

AMONG THE TREES
Having Epping Forest on the doorstep has been a sheer pleasure. The owner of Uma Farm can go walking, jogging or cycling through the trees whenever he chooses. The area has a great deal of history – it has been continuously forested since Neolithic times and is thought to have been given legal status as a royal forest by Henry II in the 12th century. Today stretching 12 miles from Manor Park, in East London, to just north of Epping in Essex, and covering almost 6,000 acres, it is the largest public open space in the London area.
It is of national and international conservation importance, with two thirds of it being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.
“We see so many birds here because we are so close to the forest – it is a great place to live,” he says.

EASY COMMUTING
Despite its leafy surroundings, Uma Barn has been a convenient place to be based.
“Although it is so quiet here I am just 10 minutes from Loughton and then it takes just only half an hour to reach London Liverpool Street, which is perfect if you need to commute,” he says. “The M25 is only two minutes’ drive from the house and from there you can travel anywhere out of London very easily. I will miss having this convenience while also living in a place where you can relax in the garden over a barbecue or drink, just enjoying the tranquillity.”

Setting the scene

Uma Barn is in a quiet, rural location. It is set back from the road, with off a gated drive and plenty of off-street parking.
At the back, there is a landscaped garden, with an area of decking, for outside dining. The garden backs on to grazing land.

Within Easy Reach

Highly desirable High Beech is set within Epping Forrest itself, only a short drive into the middle of Loughton High Street. Convenient for M&S, Sainsbury's as well as a variety of shopping boutiques and salons as well as Loughton Central Line Station.

DIRECTIONS:

From the Robin Hood roundabout take Cross Roads up into High Beech taking the second left into Mott Street with an immediate left again into Church Road. Church Road will then become Lippitts Hill and the property is on your right hand side on the green approximately 200 yards past The Owl public house also on your right had side.
