Sporting activities are wide and varied, inevitably golf features with the Royal Troon Golf Club as well as many other private and municipal courses to hand. Prestwick Golf Club (where the Open was first played), is only about 8.5 miles to the south. Troon has a popular yachting marina together with associated chandlery services.

Ayr and Prestwick have indoor swimming pools and one of the largest indoor bowling stadiums in Europe as well as excellent tennis and leisure clubs with indoor and outdoor courts.
