SUMMARY
A rare opportunity to acquire a substantial grade ll listed, 16th century 5 bedroom detached residence, of character, requiring some updating, with grounds extending to around 3 acres including paddock land & outbuildings. It also boasts a freestanding lodge which can be used as a separate annex.

DESCRIPTION
The main part of the house was built around 1600 (Elizabethan) in a traditional farmhouse design (Lobby Entrance) featuring an off centre front door and chimney, is half-timbered. It was described as Cromwellian when the current vendors moved here in the late 1970's. This description implies that Parliamentarian troops were billeted here during the Civil War, possibly at the time of the Siege of Colchester to prevent the Royalist gaining access to the coast.

There are two wings to the rear of the house built in brick, one on the north is Georgian and the other is Victorian, creating a U shape with a courtyard between the wings. The Victorian wing had a pair of bakehouses at the rear which were incorporated into the house in the 1980's to create the present Kitchen.

The farm was divided up in the 20th century. Most of the land remained as apple orchards until the 1990's. The part remaining with the farm house was a market garden in the 1950's to 1970's growing soft fruit and hens eggs. Over the last 30 years It has developed into a mature woodland garden with oak, silver birch, ash, willow, beech, maple and fruit trees.

Original features include the fireplaces either side of the main chimney, some of the original wattle and daub plaster can be seen in the loft by the main chimney, original Victorian brick flooring in the Victorian wing.
